Our documentary tells the story of one of the most respected Korean potters, Lee Kang-hyo and his search for a beautiful life, through his work with clay and the love of his family. Set against the backdrop of his South Korean studio, it gives an insight into the spiritual journey that plays a vital part in his artistic practice. Lee is world-famous for mastering the traditional Korean technique called Onggi - a technique that allows him to make enormous, often man-sized pots. Watch him constructing three of these giant Onggi pots over a five-day period, culminating in an exciting explosion of glaze and colour as Lee sets about decorating them in his inimitable fashion. His work is exhibited all over the world in major national museums such as the Victoria & Albert Museum, The British Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the Art Institute of Chicago and the International Ceramic Museum in Italy. £1 million of art found in a woodcutter’s cottage. How did a humble woodsman (Ted Floate) come to own a collection of Ivon Hitchens paintings second to none? A major exhibition of 10 previously unseen oil paintings by important British artist, Ivon Hitchens (1893-1979). A woodcutter’s chance encounter with the painter Ivon Hitchens in 1956 has led to an important exhibition of 10 previously unseen oil paintings by Hitchens in Uppingham at Goldmark Gallery. The exhibition will also feature drawings and a watercolour. Following their meeting, Ted Floate the woodcutter and Ivon Hitchens became close companions until the artist’s death in 1979. Ted worked for Hitchens on the artist’s estate and also helped with framing of the paintings and even technical advice. Hitchens regularly gave his friend paintings and drawings, which even in those days was a considerable gift, filling Ted’s cottage with an amazing collection of Modern British Romantic art. At 85, Ted has now decided to sell. Ted’s story of his work and friendship with Hitchens brings a deep insight into the artist’s life. Peter Khoroche, the world’s leading authority on Hitchens, has now written an essay on Ted’s paintings and the friendship, which will be in the catalogue of the exhibition. The exhibition catalogue will also include interviews on DVD with Ted Floate and Peter Khoroche. Interest in Hitchens continues to strengthen. Recently an Ivon Hitchens oil painting sold at Christie’s for a world record price of just over £250,000. The exhibition in Uppingham opens on the 15 March 2014 and will run for 3 weeks. Works, essay and films will be available to view on www.goldmarkart.com

Charles Mapleston's sensitive and revealing film traces Robert Dawson's early life as a jazz saxophonist, his teaching career and his art. "He wanted to be a painter; poet and a musician and I think he achieved all those things." Dawson's widow, Peggy guides us through aspects of her late husband's life revisiting places in Staffordshire and Wales that had been such an inspiration to him and meeting again with Sir Kyffin Williams who so admired his work. "Robert Dawson was always one of the quiet men of art, a man of great modesty. Unlike so many of the younger artists today, he did not aspire to fame or artistic acclaim but quietly contented himself with wring out his own problems in his own honest way. Because he painted what he loved he was able to communicate that love to others. For this reason, I believe, his work will always be appreciated long after so much of the facile creations produced today have been forgotten." George Large hated school and left when he was fifteen, his only qualification being a precocious distinction in A-Level Art. A short spell in the display department at Simpsons of Piccadilly was followed by a place at Hornsey College of Arts and Crafts. Large, now in his sixties, is rarely without his sketchbook. We follow him through the boatyards at Felixstowe and cannot but share his childlike enthusiasm and sense of wonder at what he sees - a myriad of shapes and colours and textures, all there for him to draw. Visiting Cookham he recalls meeting his childhood hero, Stanley Spencer, some forty years previously and painting with him in the churchyard. Charles Mapleston’s gentle and revealing portrait of Large allows us the rare opportunity of glancing over the artist’s shoulder and watching as he works from sketchbook to finished watercolour. "His complex compositions, bursting with vitality and primary idiosyncratic colours, which ingeniously weave together the figurative and topographical, always delight. Here we have a painter who has fine-tuned his skills to give us paintings that are well balanced, always full of dramatic impact and frequently imbued with his quirky sense of humour. Large has developed a highly distinctive style that is intensely personal." Anthony J. A very enjoyable film following artist Rigby Graham MBE traveling round Ireland. Synopsis: Travelling across Ireland with Rigby Graham was a revelation. There is hardly a corner of this fascinating country that he cannot illuminate with his experience and vision. The man has been working in Ireland for more than thirty years and has an encyclopaedic knowledge of its past, its people, its pain and its passions. The film is a kind of 'retrospective road movie' visiting many of the artist's load haunts and creating dynamic new work along the way. Graham has a dry sense of humour and enlivens the film with his own cryptic commentaries written daily on postcards home. It was a challenging film to make, not lease for Graham who, in his seventieth year, had to undergo a journey as demanding in its way st those of his forebears Ulysses. Enduring rough roads and stormy seas, it culminated in a spectacular climb amidst the puffins to an ancient monastery perched on a rocky island sanctuary set deep in the Atlantic: a pilgrimage that inspired profound reflections on his life and works.
