On January 15th, 2013 Green Light New York organized the presentation of two seminal reports on daylighting in commercial office buildings, held at the New York Times building. This uncut video of the event includes Adam Hinge of Sustainable Energy Partnerships outlining the findings of his report for Green Light New York on the energy and costs savings potential of retrofitting New York City office buildings with advanced daylighting controls. The report includes policy and incentive recommendations to accelerate action and stimulate this critical market to take advantage of the wave of lighting retrofits triggered by the Lighting & Submetering law of the Greener, Greater Buildings Plan. Adam is followed by Stephen Selkowitz of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory who discusses their recently completed a post-occupancy study of the shading and daylighting system deployed in 2007 at The New York Times building. The success of that project, perhaps the most advanced integrated daylighting system of its kind in New York City, demonstrates the potential savings that can be achieved in New York’s building stock. The presentations are followed by an engaging discussion led by David Biello, Associate Editor for energy and the environment at Scientific American.
