The nature of progress.Music:Groupshow. Groupshow is Jan Jelinek, Hanno Leichtmann and Andrew Pekler. http://www.groupshow.de What is progress? Growth? It takes about 16 frames a second to create the illusion of moving pictures. The visual composition of "dog shoes to the stars" goes back to less - a quarter of the usual 25 frames per second - to make the proces of the image composition comprehendable. Beginning with lines referring to physical photo negatives and film counterfoils a dialectic proces is unfolding. One system of points of views is following the other and - as time is going on - merging in an expending context.

A LAZARIDES GALLERY Group Show Featuring the artwork of Antony Micallef, JR, Conor Harrington & Vhils June 9 – June 27, 2010 Lazarides LA is proud to introduce, EuroTrash: a stellar line up of some of the hottest European artists around. Hailing from France, JR will bring his unsurpassed, unique vision to Beverley Hills. Immersing himself within cultures where struggle and conflict are rife, he presents his monochromatic photographs, often over 20 feet high on unconventional exhibiting arena’s to highlight humanist matters that are often overlooked. Cork born painter Conor Harrington goes against the grain of the fast pace of graffiti art preferring to opt for the slower process of oil painting yet never forgetting his on the street roots. Interested in opposing elements, illusion of power and the emotional side of masculinity, soldiers and conquerors exist within colorful abstract landscapes. The world portrayed by Antony Micallef is one of contradictions as Barbie becomes the Virgin Mary adorned with a Chanel necklace and cutesy paraphernalia, Angel’s wield guns and Soldiers wear flower power printed uniforms. Portuguese artist Vhils aka Alexandre Farto is the youngest artist on Lazarides books. Working with manipulating surfaces, whether it is the brick façade of buildings with masonry equipment or layered fly posters that he peels away, he transforms these varying planes to reveal mystifying, striking portraits that explore a city’s dimensions. Monday afternoon a group of friends set out from the Long Island City Art Community led by Karen Dimit, artist and LICAO Co-Chair. We met Eric Benaim of Modern Spaces who was gracious enough to take us on a tour. http://modernspacesnyc.com/ Eric took us on a whirlwind tour of condos that might be suitable for group shows during the LIC Arts Open fest. It was remarkable to view spaces I had only seen from the outside. It was the first very bright and warm spring day in New York, and it was very enjoyable to walk and converse with fellow artists. Later we met Ed, the owner of a very well organized and highly recommended frame shop-- Fine Art Frameworks. http://www.fineartframeworks.com/ One of the interesting things that happens in festivals like this one is the collaboration between businesses and artists. LIC Arts Open is the first festival of it's kind in Long Island City. And as a filmmaker who has grown up in Queens, I can attest that it's the first of it's kind in Queens. It will be a week-long celebration of Art, Music, Dance, Film and Performance with open studios and events going on all over LIC. For more info check out: http://www.licartsopen.org/ And don't forget to follow http://twitter.com/LICArtsOpen And like https://www.facebook.com/LICArtsOpen And Support https://www.fracturedatlas.org/site/contribute/donate/4456 Because the LIC Arts Open is a Festival based on physical locations and their interconnectedness, I’ve begun to experiment with geo tagging this project. Because you still can’t geotag videos on vimeo, I’ve included the Google street view locations featured in this quick video. Also check the Flicker stills for Geo locations. The following are the locations in the video Geo tagged from Google maps Murano 10 Borden Ave http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=long+island+city+queens&aq=&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=53.741627,112.675781&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Long+Island+City,+Queens,+New+York&ll=40.741681,-73.955981&spn=0.006349,0.013754&z=17&layer=c&cbll=40.741723,-73.956203&panoid=7H9aQfR1YVZBwIXRa7pblQ&cbp=12,11.82,,0,2.91 Condo location 2 http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=long+island+city+queens&aq=&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=53.741627,112.675781&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Long+Island+City,+Queens,+New+York&ll=40.742568,-73.957086&spn=0.006349,0.013754&z=17&layer=c&cbll=40.742594,-73.957226&panoid=xjdaXhoMhpohzJAy45riZQ&cbp=12,339.03,,0,4.2 modern spaces http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=long+island+city+queens&aq=&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=53.741627,112.675781&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Long+Island+City,+Queens,+New+York&ll=40.742568,-73.957086&spn=0.006349,0.013754&z=17&layer=c&cbll=40.742594,-73.957226&panoid=xjdaXhoMhpohzJAy45riZQ&cbp=12,339.03,,0,4.2 Fine Art Frameworks http://www.fineartframeworks.com/ http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=long+island+city+queens+fine+art+frameworks&aq=&sll=40.744551,-73.953495&sspn=0.006178,0.013754&ie=UTF8&hq=fine+art+frameworks&hnear=Long+Island+City,+Queens,+New+York&ll=40.743729,-73.9517&spn=0.01229,0.027509&z=16&layer=c&cbll=40.743754,-73.951857&panoid=A_KSXeWAg49P2NB4n76LlA&cbp=12,14.56,,0,5.25 Waters Edge http://www.watersedgenyc.com/ http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=long+island+city+queens&aq=&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=53.741627,112.675781&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Long+Island+City,+Queens,+New+York&layer=c&cbll=40.749565,-73.955294&panoid=D9Ovdz1txN9gKVNNBjPHcw&cbp=12,305.74,,0,-7.27&ll=40.749533,-73.955154&spn=0.025391,0.055017&z=15 tech specs.
