      from Infopeople Added 6 0 0

Libraries are striving to respond in thoughtful, efficient ways to the use of personal portable devices in physical libraries as well as providing access to library content, services, and systems for customers on the go in various locations. The mobile revolution demands active discussion, earnest thought, thoughtful play, careful but accelerated planning, and determined action by libraries. This webinar archive is presented by Lori Bell and Thomas A. Peters from September 27, 2012. This material is taken from an Infopeople webinar. This week, Pixelosophy keeps both hands in its pockets. Which can only mean that handheld gaming is back on the table for discussion. Although for it to be on the table, hands would indeed need to come out of pockets. Anyway, it's all 3DS, Vita and iOS this week. Disclaimer: This episode was filmed before the announcement that the Vita won't be coming to the U.S. in time for the holidays. So when Aaron and Alex mention "this holiday season," just pretend they said "this spring" or something like that.

              • CDF HDF: A Cardiff Mixtape Movie

                from Phantom [Presence] Added 186 0 0

Applied Institute of Paramusicology PO BOX 23 Thule Island The South Sandwich Islands March 26, 2010 Dear Sirs, Further to my letter of January 4 (see below), I am pleased to announce that the contents of the video tape in the case of the “Cardiff Mystery” can now be released to the public. Interested parties may view the contents at the following web address: http://www.vimeo.com/10454636 While the exact process remains unclear, it seems that the contents of the mixtape “Phantom [Presence] – CDF HDF” and the consciousness of the young man who discovered it have been recorded onto the video tape. The video includes the highlights of the young man's mind from the moment he found the mixtape on December 29 last, to the moment it was thrown into Cardiff Bay, presumably lost forever. Who recorded the mixtape and for what purpose remain a mystery. What we do know is that each of the artists featured comes from the city of Cardiff. Somehow this music has become jumbled up with extracts from films and television programmes made in Cardiff and with found footage of the city (presumably viewed by the young man online). A full list of the artists featured is not yet available, although you may be familiar with the names Shirley Bassey, Tiger Tailz, Metabeats and Los Campesinos! If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact our organisation via email. For the purposes of this case the address is: phanpres@googlemail.com We will be making further updates on the case available via twitter (@phantompresence). Unfortunately, the two men who discovered and listened to the mixtape remain unable to speak in public about their experiences. It is hoped that with time and intensive therapy both shall make a full recovery. Yours faithfully, Dr. Michael S. Barrett Director, Applied Institute of Paramusicology ............ Applied Institute of Paramusicology PO BOX 23 Thule Island The South Sandwich Islands January 4, 2010 Dear Sirs, On December 29, 2009, a music-loving man chanced across a rare old cassette in a pile of junk left in a Cardiff backstreet. Excited to find this rare collaboration between Llwbyr Llaethog, Ty Gwydr and David R. Edwards, he pocketed the tape, exclaimed 'tidy' and continued on his business. That evening the man took the tape to his uncle's house on the outskirts of the city. His eccentric uncle owned a large selection of recording and hi-fi equipment dating as far back as the early 20th century. The two men connected a large 1980s 'ghetto blaster' to the mains and prepared to listen to the cassette. Opening the box, the pair noticed that a sticker had been placed on one side of the tape. On it was written Phantom [Presence] – 'CDF HDF'. “Funny, I'm sure that wasn't there earlier.” said the younger man to his uncle. “Well, shall we listen to that side first then?” asked the older man. “Sounds good to me,” said his nephew. ... On January 1, 2010 the captain of a pleasure boat observed two men hurling what looked like a cassette tape into Cardiff Bay, their faces a strange mixture of terror and ecstasy. The two men were detained by police and have now been sectioned under the Mental Health Act. The contents of the tape are presumed lost forever. The older man is in a catatonic state, his nephew delirious. In a rare moment of lucidity, the younger man directed researchers towards a website: www.myspace.com/phantompresencemusic If his ramblings are to be believed, this website contains a fragment of the lost tape. How the fragment got there and who uploaded it remains a mystery. A video tape was found tightly grasped in the hand of the uncle. It is hoped that the use of muscle relaxants will loosen his grip and enable researchers to view the contents, thereby solving this perplexing case. It may be some weeks before the tape can be released and the answers known. The contents of the tape will be made available to a select audience at the earliest opportunity. If you wish to be one of the first to view the contents of the tape, please contact me via the following email address: phanpres@googlemail.com Yours faithfully, Dr. Michael S. Barrett, Director, Applied Institute of Paramusicology
