#MuslimLivesMatter: NZ Stands in Solidarity with Slain Muslims On the 11th of February 2015, three young American Muslim students, Deah Shady Barakat, Yusor Abu-Salha and Razan Abu-Salha, were shot to death execution style in a cruel, cold-blooded and senseless murder. The lack of media coverage for the lives of these individuals, as well as hate crime victim Abdisamad Sheikh-Hussein, has been shocking and alludes to the treatment of Muslim lives in society to be unfair and unequal. We ask members of the New Zealand community, both Muslim and non-Muslim, to come together to stand in solidarity with Deah, Yusor, Razan and Abdisamad, and with the families of these victims specifically and to stand against religious violence and hate crimes in general. It is imperative for us to send our support in what is a troubling and frighteningly underdocumented time. Islamophobia is an issue which has been on the rise, resulting in the loss of many innocent lives. Please spread the news and acknowledge Muslim lives; hashtag @[null:#MuslimLivesMatter] The Muslim community will also be performing a prayer for the victims and will have prayers recited on the evening. Please join us in creating peace and spreading love. We will not be protesting or marching. Please bring a candle to light on the evening if you can.
