Grant Sergot is a master milliner based in Bisbee Arizona. He makes hats the old fashioned way using original equipment some of which is nearly a century old. His headwear is artwork and the man is an amazing character. Watch him interact with the brothers from the Million Dollar Road Trip and learn a little about a lost art. You can see more of Grant's creations on his website: http://www.optimohatworks.com/

    • Millinery in action: making a hat in the Stephen Jones workroom

The millinery workroom or atelier is the creative laboratory where hat designs are transformed from ideas into reality. In this video you can see one of Stephen Jones' creations come to life. In the words of Stephen Jones, a milliner’s workroom is ‘half Aladdin’s cave and half artist’s studio’, a place where each hat is carefully coaxed into being. This video was made for the Victoria & Albert Museum's exhibition 'Hats: An Anthology by Stephen Jones' 24 February - 31 May 2009. See www.vam.ac.uk/hats for more information.

Kim's millinery work is very well received in the Melbourne and international racing industry, although interestingly, many of her overseas clients think she has a big factory that churns out her hats. Not the case! Kim's hats are all handmade in her own little workshop in Elsternwick. We should know, we've seen it! The shoot was very relaxed with Kim doing her thing and us doing ours. Check out Kim's great hats at www.kimfletcher.com.au Equipment: Canon 5D Mark II Canon XF100 Steadicam Merlin EF 70-200 f2.8 IS L EF 24-105 f4 L Olympus LS-10

This documentary shows a group of students, most of whom had experienced homelessness, who came together with their tutor Isabelle Mazzitelli to create hats under the theme of 'A Roof Over My Head', and to explore the themes of "Protection" and the value of a "Home". The hat project culminated in a fund raising evening at Home House with a hat auction in aid of the homeless charities Centrepoint, The Hanbury Project and Crisis. The second phase, of fundraising, will be used to support an independent hat class for homeless students. Thank you to all the students for allowing us to show this film.
