I came across an old favorite CD of mine the other day. "Passion" by Peter Gabriel. It came out in 1989 and was used in Martin Scorsese's "The Last Temptation of Christ". It is a phenomenal piece of work, it hasn't aged at all and in some ways sounds even more relevant today. I really wanted to use the title track "Passion" in a video piece. As I looked at a bunch of my footage I realized it would work best with my misty sunrise footage. Building most of it around the moment the sun pokes up over the distant horizon, and coupling it to the peak of the mournful vocal in the music. I sometimes base a whole video around one moment like this. Some of this footage I used in "Sirens of the Mist" and at the beginning of "Autumn Glory" but I feel this version represents the best use of the misty dawn footage and certainly shows more of it, this one is long! Clocking in at close to 8 minutes. Some of this is shot with my Sony V1U and other parts were done with the EX1. Please find what good you can in it and let me know what you think! I'm not allowing downloads as some have been taking my work and putting sections of it in their own videos on YouTube. Sorry a few have to ruin it for others.

        • Z

          from Alan Warburton / Added

Directed and Animated by Alan Warburton. Commissioned by Animate Projects for Channel 4’s Random Acts series. Soundtrack by Max Richter. ‘Z’ is composed entirely of z-depth images - also known as ‘luminance depth’ or ‘depth map’ images. Z-depth is a ghostly black & white data-driven format native only to CG animation. The function of the z-depth image is similar to radar or the MRI scan. It interprets objects within a scene according to distance: those closest to camera are black, those furthest away are white (or vice versa). Details are lost at either end of the spectrum, and are likewise revealed within the middle distance. Functionally, this allows CGI artists to pull camera focus in post-production by using the monochromatic shades in the z-depth pass to isolate and focus on the corresponding depths of the full-colour CG scene. The ‘selective vision’ embodied by the Z-depth image format has informed the theme of the animation - the production of historical narrative. Z is about how we make sense of the clutter of current events, how we create epochs, and how, in an era of intense global change, we are affected by a kind of longterm myopia that obscures us to the larger forces at work. Full Credits: Directed and Animated by Alan Warburton. Commissioned by Animate Projects for Channel 4’s Random Acts series. Soundtrack ‘Iconography’ by Max Richter, courtesy of Fat Cat Records. Title Card by I Love New Work. Special thanks to Mainframe.

Episode 3 of my family's retelling of a haunting we experienced a few years ago. This is actually a remake of one of my earliest video projects. I shot this months back but for some reason couldn't find the motivation, until recently, to complete. The actual shoot only took about 3 hours and I finished most of the dry edit months back but it was the sound design that took me a while to complete... I was distracted by my new photography business:)... but it's finally finished and we're already writing the next episode. So please turn up the speakers or throw on some headphones and please, please, please... enjoy! Comments would be appreciated! P.S. Be sure to watch after the credits! There's a suprise at the end:) Shot on a Canon HV20 with a DIY Steadycam, a Canon HV30 with a Twoneil Plus 35mm adapter and a Nikon 50mm f/1.4 lens. Edited and Color Corrected in Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 with additional FX done in Adobe After Effects CS3. Lighting achieved with 3 H1 Halogen lights and whatever was around the house. Music by Starson(Me) ADR done on a Roland BR-1600 digital recorder and an Audio Technica AT3035 Cardiod Microphone PLEASE SUBSCRIBE TO MY CHANNEL: http://www.vimeo.com/channels/sashastefantv
