"Food and Mood: The Science Behind the Effects of Food on Anxiety, Social Phobia and Panic Attacks and Supporting a Healthy Mood" with Trudy Scott In this presentation, Food Mood Expert Trudy Scott will delve into the current evidence surrounding the connection between food and mood and discuss recent studies that support this for anxiety disorders. How to maintain a healthy and stable mood will be discussed, offering solutions for the food-mood connection such as which foods to eat, specific foods to avoid, the importance of food quality, individual nutrients to supplement, as well as considering the biochemical individuality of each individual. This presentation will provide the science behind the effects of foods on anxiety, social phobia and panic attacks. It will also address the benefits of foods and nutrients on health issues that often go hand-in-hand with anxiety disorders such as depression, addictions, emotional eating, digestive disorders and sleep disorders. An editorial in the American Journal of Psychiatry offered a very powerful comment on three food-mood studies: "It is both compelling and daunting to consider that dietary intervention at an individual or population level could reduce rates of psychiatric disorders. There are exciting implications for clinical care, public health, and research". Food Mood Expert Trudy Scott is a certified nutritionist on a mission to educate and empower women worldwide about the healing powers of food in order to find natural solutions for their anxiety, depression, emotional eating and sugar cravings. Trudy works with clients one-on-one and in groups, serving as a catalyst in bringing about life enhancing mood transformations that start with eating real whole food and using some pretty amazing nutrients. Trudy uses a comprehensive 9 step approach with her clients to help them overcome their anxiety, depression, emotional eating and sugar cravings. It is, of course, customized to their unique biochemistry. She is the author of The Antianxiety Food Solution: How the Foods You Eat Can Help You Calm Your Anxious Mind, Improve Your Mood & End Cravings (New Harbinger, 2011). Trudy also presents nationally to holistic health practitioners and mental health practitioners on food and mood, sharing all the recent research and how-to steps so they too can educate and empower their clients and patients. She has been featured on NPR, GaiamTV, morning shows like Good Day Sacramento, Fox 40, and been quoted in AARP, Glamour and Cosmopolitan magazines. Trudy publishes an electronic newsletter entitled Food, Mood and Gal Stuff, available at www.everywomanover29.com and www.antianxietyfoodsolution.com.

The discussions and information on diabetes in this video are from "Qanuqtuurniq – Finding the Balance," a live, three-part phone-in TV series prepared by Inuit Tuttarvingat of the National Aboriginal Health Organization. Originally broadcast live from Iqaluit, Nunavut in May 2009, it was aired in Canada and Alaska along with live web streaming. Because prevention begins with understanding just how serious this problem is becoming, diabetes was discussed on each of the three shows. First you will see excerpts from the men’s show, “Angutiilli qanuiliqpat? – How are we as men?,” You’ll hear about diabetes research in the context of the Qanuippitali? Inuit Health Survey and then information about Type 2 diabetes prevention and prevalence. Next, you will see clips about maternity care and gestational diabetes from our show, “Nutaraqtaarniq Nunalingnirmiunut Alianaippuq! – Birth, a joyous community event!” And finally, from the youth show, “Makkuktuuvunga, upimmavunga – I am young, and I am proud,” we offer a few really short clips regarding the health survey on questions asked to youth 18 and up, on pop drinking and on diabetes results. See also www.InuitWellness.ca for more background and resources. Inuit language with English captions/subtitles Broadcast from Iqaluit, Nunavut
