Since it was opened in 1969, Pioneer Town has been a favorite exhibit for a majority of visitors. With its two historic residences and a dozen artifact-filled buildings, the town exposes young and old alike to an important chapter in Panhandle Plains history. However, interactive components and opportunities are limited, and the boardwalks around many buildings make the windows inaccessible. In order to maintain the museum's tradition of providing optimal, engaging visitor experiences and to make the town ADA compliant, PPHM will be renovating Pioneer Town during the next few months. Renovation plans call for removal of the old floor tiles and asbestos abatement. New flooring will look and feel appropriate to a turn-of-the century town. The new exhibition will create a dynamic, immersive learning environment that includes authentic sights and sounds, many fully-accessible structures and hands-on interactives that will encourage visitors to reminisce, make connections between generations and discover differences and similarities between "then and now." Once complete, visitors will enter the pioneer town through a railroad depot façade, like the early settlers who rode the rails to the region. From there, they will be encouraged to enter the land office, where they will find reproduction maps of historic Panhandle Plains towns and will be exposed to flyers and broadsides advertising goods and services available in town and land for sale in the area. Hands-on activities at the residences located on the east end of town will offer additional opportunities to walk in the footsteps of the settlers. A horse-drawn hearse parked next to the furniture dealer/undertaker's shop will not only show visitors that multi-tasking is nothing new, but also that, to the settlers, life and death were every-day occurrences. Fronts for a barber shop, photographer's studio, drug store, jewelry store and feed and seed store, along with signage for other enterprises will round out the turn-of-the-century town. While an opening date has not yet been set, you can find information on the renovations and pictures of the project as it progresses on panhandleplains.org. The project is generously sponsored by the Canyon Economic Development Corporation, M.S. Doss Foundation and the Mary E. Bivins Foundation.

This is a book from 2007. The writing amount is much higher than the amount of added pictures, as if there was more need to complaint and less images to show. As if there had nothing happened. As if there had been silent times. During the years these books look less expressive, les chaotic. Text is running in an even style, the hand is stable. The front inner two pages and the back inner two pages are used to assamble important pictures, that collected over the period the book was written.
