Saturday, Jan. 28 marks the 161st anniversary of Northwestern's chartering. As part of the Founders' Day celebration on the Evanston campus, a slide show of photos submitted by Northwestern students, alumni, faculty and staff will be posted online and displayed on screens across campus. We want to represent as many aspects of the Northwestern experience as possible, so send us your favorite photo from your time at Northwestern and we will include it in the slide show. To submit a photo, e-mail the file to m-paolelli@northwestern.edu or tweet the photo to @NorthwesternU on Twitter. Thanks for participating and stay tuned for more information on Founders' Day celebration activities. Full details: http://bit.ly/Azua6Y

This video describes the history of photography from its humble origins to the amazing roles it plays today. In order to understand a given era in history, we often have to consult not just textual documents, but photographic evidence as well. Certain spans of history simply cannot be grasped without photography. The words war and famine alone do not communicate the vivid and indelible imagery that photographs transmit. The art of photography has acutely impacted nearly every area of our lives, from scientific disciplines to leisurely weekends with friends and family. Photography has brought us a long way.
