Visited the World Trade Center Memorial on 9/11/2015. It's strange thinking about the kids born today after that event. To them it's something that never happened in their lifetime, to them it's a history lesson, a terrible tragedy that happened. It was a tragedy that occurred in my life time that I wasn't ready to comprehend... no one was ready to comprehend. For all of us who where kids when 9/11 happened, it was the day our innocence of the world ended. from De Balie Added 169 0 0

Live stream recording 2015-10-03 - De Balie and gate 48 have invited Israeli writer Nir Baram on Saturday the 3rd of October at 20.00 to talk to Abdelkader Benali about the coverage of Baram’s journey through Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories. In addition Baram will discuss the relationship between his political engagement and his literary work, between Walking the Green Line and his latest novel World Shadow. In the past year the acclaimed novelist Nir Baram (known from novels such as Good People and World Shadow) travelled through (and beyond) his homeland, driven by the desire to listen to voices usually unheard in mainstream media. Baram covered his journey in ‘Walking The Green Line’, 10 chapters which were published in the Israeli newspaper Haaretz. His conversations with Israelis and Palestinians (politicians, kibbutzniks, settlers, political prisoners and soldiers) mirror the complex political situation in the region in times of tension, war and elections. How his political involvement relates to his writing is one of the central themes during his conversation with the writer Abdelkader Benali. Nir Baram (Jerusalem, 1976) is seen as the biggest literary talent in Israel. With his novel Good People he presented himself to an international audience receiving critical acclaim and positive reviews all around. Baram’s fifth and latest novel World Shadow was an instant bestseller in Israel. This novel deals with the immense power of capitalism and the price individuals have to pay because of it. http://www.haaretz.com/st/c/prod/eng/2015/greenLine http://www.gate48.org/nir-baram-walking-the-green-line N E D E R L A N D S : http://www.debalie.nl/agenda/podium/nir-baram-in-gesprek-met-abdelkader-benali/e_9781925/p_11742709/ http://www.debalie.nl http://www.debalie.tv .
