C-Change, a USAID-funded program, provides technical assistance and support for a broad range of USAID communication activities in the DRC. Working with Search for Common Ground (SFCG), a conflict prevention NGO, C-Change built HIV prevention messages into several episodes of SFCG's popular reality television show, Toselel'ango. Tosalel’ango means “Let’s Do It!” in Lingala, the main language of Kinshasa and many other urban areas in the DRC. Launched in 2008, the show seeks to channel frustration and anger among youth into actionable positive change in local communities. Congolese youth (18-29) contact the show with an issue they want Tosalel’ango to focus on. The producers match two people with the same issue, called “Challengers,” and give them the chance to find a solution. In this episode, filmed in Kindele, the challengers aimed to encourage youth between ages 14 and 20 to become engaged in the response to HIV. They eventually organized a sensitization campaign in a secondary school in Kindele, Katanga Province, highlighting the need for collaboration between students and school officials in order to share information and raise awareness about HIV prevention.
