Without quality health care communities do not thrive. With quality health care you can work productively, concentrate at school, and provide for your family. We are investing in a community health care system in rural Africa including an out patient clinic, a new rural hospital, and an extensive community health worker network in the villages. Over the past six years, our work has already helped to increase primary school graduation rates and made tens of thousands of people healthier and more productive.

Summertime - a time to make memories, spend time outdoors and get re-acquainted with new friends and neighbors. This summer, Blood:Water Mission invites you to not only make memories but make a difference, too. Build a Lemon:Aid stand in your community to quench the thirst of someone in your neighborhood, then donate the funds to Blood:Water Mission to quench the thirst of someone half way around the world in Africa with clean, safe water. Over 320 million Africans lack access to clean, safe water - people like you and me - smart, talented, hopeful people - and we can partner with them to make a difference in their lives as well as ours. http://www.bloodwatermission.com/lemonaid Music courtesy of Bravo Max. http://www.facebook.com/bravomaxmusic

This is the first part of a multimedia project about prostitution in Rwanda. We worked together with the NGO Medsar to create not only a story about their work, but also to give a little bit of insight into what it actually means to be in prostitution. In the Western Highlands of Papua New Guinea, a group of HIV-positive women form an alliance. Follow the members of the True Friends Club as they rehearse for World AIDS Day festivities and speak openly about life with the virus. In 2008 I lived and worked in Mount Hagen, the capital of PNG's Western Highlands Province, for four months. During this time, I interviewed some of the people I was working with on camera. On my return to Australia, I cut this footage into a short documentary film, in an attempt to show what life is like for a young woman in modern-day PNG.

                      from DFID / Added

                      69 Plays / / 0 Comments

Tackling HIV and AIDS in the developing world is an immense challenge which means going beyond treating the disease to focusing on prevention. There is no one-size-fits-all solution any response must be tailored to the specific needs of each country and of the groups most vulnerable to AIDS. The UKs Department for International Development works with governments and other partners in a huge range of programmes to target the problems that contribute most to the spread of HIV and AIDS across the world. Through a programme funded by the Department for International Development, hairdressers in Harare, Zimbabwe - are trained to give advice on safe sex and the benefits of using female condoms. Produced by Chris Morgan / DFID - Department for International Development For more on DFID's work on HIV and AIDS see www.dfid.gov.uk/wad2009
