Set in the idyllic and serene Austrian hills sits a fortress like structure that bespeaks of terror, torture, cruelty and death to the victims within its walls. This is Mauthhausen, a concentration camp where Jews and other victims were subjected to constant torture from the very moment of arrival. Touring this camp by foot took me the better part of a day as I slowly attempted to absorb the enormity of the crime that took place on the grounds that I covered. The Stairway of Death was one experience that will never leave my mind as I climbed it, trying to do the impossible, imagine how the victims felt when they were there. The unimaginable was just that "unimaginable."
