    Jacob Rosenthal, als Hans Heinrich am 11. Juni 1922 in Nürnberg geboren, besuchte die Volksschule am Rathenauplatz, dann von 1932 bis 1938 das Melanchthon-Gymnasium, bis diese Schule »judenrein« gemacht wurde. Aus seiner Gymnasialzeit ist ihm besonders eine traumatische Begebenheit in Erinnerung: Bei einem Klassenausflug auf einen Gutshof wurde er zu­sammen mit zwei weiteren jüdischen Mitschülern an eine Hundehütte gekettet und mit Abfällen beworfen. Den Abbruch der Synagoge am Hans-Sachs-Platz erlebte er als »Symbol des herannahenden Endes«. Seine Eltern mussten nach dem 9. November 1938  – Hans war zu dieser Zeit Schüler des Jüdischen Gymnasiums in Berlin – zusätzliche jüdische Mieter in ihrer 5-Zimmer-Wohnung aufnehmen. Da Hans’ Stiefvater eine leitende Position in der zionistischen Ortsgruppe innehatte und auch der Junge selbst schon ab 1933 in der zionistischen Jugendbewegung aktiv war, die ihm das Gegengewicht zur Isolation in seiner christlichen Umwelt gab, kam für eine Auswanderung nur ein Land in Frage: Im März 1939 emigrierte Familie Rosenthal über Triest nach Palästina. Hans nahm den hebräischen Namen Jacob an. Er starb im Februar 2012 in Jerusalem.
