http://www.maozisrael.org Today is Holocaust Remembrance Day in Israel. The day the entire nation pauses to remember the 6 million Jews brutally murdered by Hitler and the Nazis. On this day at 10am, sirens wail throughout the country for 2 minutes. During those 2 minutes everything comes to a standstill. All traffic stops, people step out of their cars, all business stops, schools, stores...wherever you are, you pause and remember. In this Video blog we allow you to experience these 2 minutes of silence, along with the rest of Israel. And let us pray the 6 million didn't die in vain. Let us never forget and let us vow that it will happen never again... http://www.maozisrael.org

Video originally created and uploaded by Anthony Lawson to YouTube. LINK: youtube.com/watch?v=0gycNMf0xAc&feature=player_embedded Suppressing free and open discussion on any subject is as bad as telling lies, and knowingly suppressing the truth is the biggest lie of all, because it is based, not on a mistake or a genuine error, but on a deliberate intention to deceive. Having been tortured, Rudolf Höss, who was the commander of Auschwitz from 1940 to 1943, almost certainly lied to save the lives of his wife and children. Even if torture and duress cannot not be proven, the overwhelming reason for recognizing the utter falsity of the Höss confession is that the gassing method he described was not scientifically plausible. Yet Höss's conviction has stood, by inference, as a testament to the cruelty of Germans in general, since he was tried at Nuremberg, in 1947, and subsequently hanged on April 16th, 1947, in Poland. With great respect for those who have tried—though harassed, punished, fined, imprisoned and otherwise abused—to tell it like it really was: Arthur R. Butz, Robert Faurisson, Paul Grubach, Gerd Honsik, David Irving, Kevin Käther, Nicholas Kollerstrom, Fred Leuchter, Horst Mahler, Ingrid Rimland, Germar Rudolf, Bradley Smith, Sylvia Stolz, Fredrick Töbin, Ernst Zündel and many others. A short documentary charting my Jewish grandfather's journey from Austria to England on the Kindertransport during World War II at the age of 13. Stefan Ruff narrates his story over the images of a model railway. Nominated for BEST DOCUMENTARY at Watersprite: Cambridge International Student Film Festival. The film has also been screened at the BFI, Southbank. "...a poignant and moving story that is simply told." "The simplicity of the images allow the words of the story to resonate." "...a measured and thought provoking exploration of a boy who is out of his depth..."

Every year, the Federation works to promote Yom HaShoah, which is international day of Holocaust Remembrance. Holocaust remembrance is necessary so we can do our best to learn from these atrocities to prevent them from happening in the future. It is necessary to continue to have these remembrances ceremonies for the future generations. Education is our best defense to combat ignorance.

This production was created by Owen Kindig in 1994 for Lena Romanoff and her company, the Jewish Converts and Interfaith Network. It was shot on videotape and 16mm film in San Antonio, Philadelphia, and Columbus Ohio. Its purpose was to communicate the results of Lena's extensive research into the impact of dual-religion parenting on the children. Its tone is both celebratory of the benefits of Judaism in teaching children about God, and the difficult emotional pathways that interfaith couples face as they try to find their own personal and family identity. My special thanks to David and Lena Romanoff, my clients and the executive producers and visionaries behind this film. It features a number of Columbus residents including members of Tifereth Israel, Rabbi Harold Berman and Cantor Jack Chomsky, residents of the Wexner Heritage Village who shared their hearts with me, Florence Melton of blessed memory, and the faculty and students of Columbus Torah Academy of Columbus and Akiba Hebrew Academy (Now Jack M. Barrack) of Philadelphia. The shtetl photographs were by Roman Vishniac, from his book A Vanished World, and are reproduced by arrangement with the Publisher, Farrar, Straus and Giroux, Inc. The theme music was written and performed by Harris Romanoff, one of several talented sons of Lena and David. My daughters Rachel and Lydia also appear in the film. In addition to directing, writing, shooting, and editing the film, Owen also helped market it, including the design of the logo, packaging and creation of teaching seminar books and magazine ads.
