1. Times Arrow

This was my second collaboration with Wolfgang Suschitzky the great cinematographer that shot 'Get Carter' and took so many great black and white photographs of London in the 1930's and 1940's, I seem to remember he lit this scene with one redhead. The cast in this film had to learn his lines backwards with absolute phonetic clarity so that when shot forwards and played backwards he would lip synch forwards while the orange goes backwards! If that makes any sense, an interesting exercise. I was pretty green when I first started making films unlike a lot of young film makers today so when I was asked who I'd like to use as my DOP on my first commercial I went home and buzzed through the credits of "Get Carter", the film that had the biggest effect on me coming from the North, to find Wolfgang Suschitzky. I went in the next day and said "I'd like to work with Wolfgang Suschitsky." So the producer got ahold of him and explained that he had a test film to shoot with no money and a very young director. He agreed and I shot my first couple of commercials with him, he was in his eighties and I was in my early twenties!

        • David Schneebalg - Zeitzeugeninterview für Nürnberger Videoarchiv der Erinnerung

          from Jim Tobias / Added

Anti-Sacrifice 2004 directed by Alexander Wilson Video-Music, 3.55 min. Blue Hitler was the horrific vision of a fascism essential to human existence. It is by externalizing the holocaust that we give it potential to return. It is by creating the category of Evil that we veil its history in our shadows and carry it with us to our next tragic genocide. Fascism does not end with the death of a Führer. It continues to breed in all meaning, in all $ense. Blue Hitler represents the affirmation of this contradiction which resides in every one of us. The exhibition October 7, 1944 recognizes and presents an artistic American response to the heroism of four young women whose names are not all well-known. Just as these women's stories are often left out of the history of Auschwitz-Birkenau, women's experiences have been left out of Holocaust history and history in general. Marisa Fox, Elisa v. Joeden-Forgey, Rochelle Saidel and Rachel Lithgow, moderator, go beyond this specific episode to also discuss integrating women's stories and experiences into history.
