Some Jewish Christians taught in the Galatian churches that everyone had to observe the Mosaic Law in order to be accepted by God as approved (righteous). Paul, however, wrote this letter to contend that God's acceptance and approval (righteousness) comes by grace through faith in the finished work of Jesus on the cross, not by works of the Mosaic Law. God's approval and acceptance of us is not based on how well we keep the law (save ourselves), but purely an underserved gift from God (God saves us). Nonetheless, we all have a tendency to seek righteousness by law (try to save ourselves) instead of grace (receive salvation from God). And this tendency is how we pervert the gospel.

Our confession is important. When we get off the right thinking pattern we are in trouble. The demons can't read our mind, but they can study our countenance. Did you know that? If you have an argument with your wife for example, two things can happen: You will either overreact, get angry and use abusive language. It is the psychic noise that the fallen nature produces instead of being quiet and listen to the voice of the Good Shepherd and to the pastor teacher. Demons feed from that trash. Or you can choose to allow the mind of Christ from which love, grace, forgiveness, patience flow to motivate you all the way. Nevertheless you recognize how powerful the tongue is. Jas 3:5-6 "Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth! And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell." Having received a new nature in Christ our mind also has been renewed by the regeneration of the Holy Spirit. 1Co 2:16 "For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ."
