HOMELESSNESS (http://www.iwannagohome.webs.com) Every year 600,000 families with 1.35 million children experience homelessness in the United States, making up about 50% of the homeless population over the course of a year. The threat of homelessness looms constantly over most poor families who struggle to meet their rent or mortgage payments, but there are risk factors or predictors of homelessness that suggest some families affected by the affordable housing crisis are more likely to become homeless than others. While family homelessness is more prevalent than many think, it is possible to greatly decrease and end homelessness. By our efforts of voicing the seriousness of this issue, we hope to increase awareness for those who are unable to speak for themselves. We are all a part of the community...even the disenfranchised; and I, Brick Casey, along with many of my affiliated organizations sincerely hope that we'll be able to help the homeless in any way we can. Support the Homeless today at any participating Hunger and Homelessness organization you can. Sincerely, BRICK CASEY 100

http://www.globalhopenow.org Global Hope, together with the American Legion Riders Post 80, hosted a fundraiser on July 30, 2011 to benefit two essential local organizations that assist, specifically, veterans facing critical challenges... • The Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans (MSHV) in Wheaton, IL With the mission “Serving Those Who Served the Nation”, this program helps veterans transition from homelessness to independent living within a two-year time frame (the average stay is 6 months). The program is run 24/7 by a dedicated staff of professionals who provide a wide range of intensive one-on-one support services. Most impressive is their 70% success rate (well above national averages). • The Hines Physically Challenged Sports Committee With the goal of “motivating veterans to overcome physical challenges and boost morale”, this program recruits and trains all ages and disabilities in therapeutic recreational activities. Many go on to attend one of the Veteran’s Affairs National Competitions/Clinics. A beautiful sunny day saw a steady flow of guest file onto the grounds to honor and support our local American Veterans. Members of Legion Riders Post 80 wheeled each veteran from the Hines Hospital bus, one by one, out into an adoring crowd who clapped passionately as each passed by. This was no ordinary gathering. It was less a social event-and more accurately a heart event-with a delicious BBQ, a thirst-quenching beer garden and two musical groups that kept everyone stompin' and swayin'. By day's end over $10,000 was raised, and thanks to a generous donor match, our grand total soared over $20,000!
