The village of New Gourna was designed and built in the 1940s by the Egyptian Architect Hassan Fathy. He pioneered the use of sustainable materials and environmentally friendly design to build housing for low income families who were being relocated from their original village at Old Gourna. 60 years later, many of the now historic New Gourna buildings have fallen into disrepair and others have disappeared or been changed beyond recognition. A project is underway to safeguard the site, and World Monuments Fund (WMF) commissioned us to produce a film presenting the perspective of the residents… For more information about WMF’s work at New Gourna, see http://www.wmf.org/project/new-gourna-village

See one more short on street children in Bangladesh at: https://vimeo.com/62078722 Zewdu the street child SYNOPSIS: Zewdu is a street child that sells chewing gums and sleeps under a car in the city of Addis Ababa in Ethiopia. One day a foreign tourist gives him by mistake a larger amount of money then the one he was asking for, he decides to spend that money to go back to the village where his father lives, but a different destiny is abut to unveil. --------------------------------------------------------------------- This short hybrid movie was written and shot after I've worked with an NGO that helped orphans getting a better education. All actors are "Non-actors" me and my small crew found on the street. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Some facts: Ethiopia counts one of the largest populations of orphans in the world: 13 per cent of children throughout the country are missing one or both parents. This represents an estimated 4.6 million children – 800,000 of whom were orphaned by HIV/AIDS. The country has seen a steady increase in the number of children becoming orphaned because of AIDS. In the past, famine, conflict and other diseases were the main factors that claimed the lives of parents Many street children don’t have access to basic rights such as proper care, education, psychological support and supervision. Often, orphans and other vulnerable children are forced to work to earn an income. They are exposed to various forms of exploitation, including sexual exploitation. --------------------------------------------------------------------- CREW and CAST In order of appearance: Zewdu Fersah, Mituab, Mirtie, Marta Getachaw, Zelelem Nisgennw, Dawit Brahanu. from Oliver Wilkins Added 7,714 146 58

Aish Baladi (local bread) is eaten by practically every Egyptian for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It's so important that instead of using the Arabic word for bread (khobz) they refer to it as 'aish', literally life. Bread is heavily subsidized and people will queue at government bakeries to buy 20 loaves for an Egyptian pound ($0.20). With a diet so heavily reliant on bread, many people run the risk of missing key nutrients. High incidents of anemia in pregnant women and children are particularly dangerous and can result in miscarriages, defects and life long development problems. Introducing the right nutrients into the diet is vital. In Luxor and across Egypt, the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is working with the Ministry of Social Solidarity, the National Nutrition Institute and the World Food Programme in helping the Egyptian government to fortify bread with iron and folic acid. Long term solutions include educating mothers and families on what makes up a healthy diet and how to address anemia...
