More than 5,600 Appalachian Power customers in the Roanoke and New River valleys are without power this morning, following a night of blustery winds. Those winds, spinoff from a storm that caused extensive damage along the East Coast, interrupted power across much of Southwest Virginia. The worst of the outages remain along the West Virginia border, which experienced some snowfall. Video by Ryan Loew | The Roanoke Times

The storm of the century rumbled through the Mid-Atlantic region on Monday and I thought to document the historic storm in my area for my friends and family back west. The region where I reside was relatively unaffected by the storm for the most part. Still thousands and even more millions are without power. I hope for the safety and speedy recovery of everyone heavily affected by this devastating storm. Prayers to the families who lost their loved ones to this storm.
