Connecticut Light & Power, CL&P gave a presentation on January 8, 2013 to Redding explaining the difficulties of dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy in terms of restoring power to the town. At the beginning of the talk, people were angry and made no bones about it. At the end, they realized just how intense the damage was and that CL&P did their best when dealing with the super storm known as Sandy was. Check it out, you will learn something about just how complex the electric grid truly is as I did when putting together the video for the town.

            from Clean Energy Group Added

This webinar introduced New Jersey's newly created $200 million Energy Resilience Bank (ERB). Designed as a response to SuperStorm Sandy, which knocked out electric power to over 8 million people in the region, the ERB will provide grants and loans to municipalities and small businesses, to help them install clean resilient power technologies at critical facilities such as shelters, fueling stations, and fire stations. The bank’s first solicitation will be for resilient power projects at water and wastewater treatment facilities, with solicitations for other types of critical facilities to follow. ERB director Mitch Carpen and deputy director Thomas Walker presented information about the bank and the funding opportunities it will offer. The webinar also featured Clean Energy Group president Lew Milford and project director Todd Olinsky-Paul, who discussed the bank and other resilient power efforts around the region. This webinar originally aired on 10.28.14. Slides from this webinar are available as a pdf here: http://www.cesa.org/assets/Uploads/RPP-NJ-ERB-Webinar-Slides-1.28.14.pdf

Remember climate change? For the first time since 1984, the issue didn’t even come up in a presidential debate. But bringing climate change back into our national conversation is as much a communications challenge as it is a scientific one. Scientist Anthony Leiserowitz, director of the Yale Project on Climate Change Communication, joins Bill to describe his efforts to do what even Hurricane Sandy couldn’t — galvanize communities over what’s arguably the greatest single threat facing humanity. Leiserowitz, who specializes in the psychology of risk perception, knows better than anyone if people are willing to change their behavior to make a difference. Later in the show, in a broadcast essay, Bill reports on how the NRA and gun merchants continue to strong-arm Congress and state legislatures into keeping any and all discussion of sensible gun control off the table.
