Here's a "fair" test between the iPhone 4S and the Canon 5D MK II. I made a little rig that allowed me to shoot both cameras at the same time side by side. All scenes are perfectly synced together so you can pause and scrutinize the frames! See photo of the makeshift rig in the photo area. Exposure, shutter speed, frame rate and picture style were matched as close as possible between the two cameras. (I used the Zacuto Z-finder to help me adjust exposure for both iPhone and 5D) This test shows that the tiny F2.4 lens and sensor on the iPhone are pretty nice. It even got a little shallow depth of field! I did not overlay the exact ISO and Stops 5D settings per shot. It was too much to keep track for this simple test. To be fair I matched 5D exposure to the iPhone so no "Cinestyle" / 24p here. Here are the settings: iPhone 4S - AE.AF locked. That's all you have! Canon 5D MKII - Canon 50mm 1.4 - ISO 160 ~ 640 (varied per shot to match the iPhone) - F 7~22 (varied per shot to match the iPhone) - Shutter 1/60th - Auto WB - Standard Picture Style - 1080p 30+ More details
Holy cow. Time to throw my 7D in the bin* Got an iPhone 4S yesterday and got up this morning to go for a surf. No surf, so thought I'd shoot some stuff to see what the new camera is like on the 4S. Got home, looked at the footage, and couldn't believe it came out of a phone. Was so excited so thought I'd quickly cut a vid to share the goodness. It's actually amazing. The automatic stabilisation seems to work wonders, and gets rid of most the jello. Depth of field is flipping awesome. Colours are really good straight out the camera, but I did give this footage a slight grade with the 3-way colour wheel in Final Cut. Cut/graded with Final Cut 7. My hack for the Music Hack Day 2011 in London, a 24h Hackathon for all things music. SiriProxy is used to intercept the communication with Apple's servers. Notorious Siri then sends Notorious B.I.G.'s Hypnotize to the device. Siri's speech synthesis is synced to the beat using the timestamps obtained from the Echonest API which were then manually tweaked, to smooth out delays in the text-to-speech engine. Thanks to Universal Music for awarding me a nice pair of Dr. Dre headphones+ More details

We’re going to show you what you can do with each of these cameras on the same set by letting expert DPs who’ve mastered these cameras get creative with them. They’ve figured out the best profiles, they know how to light for their camera while keeping color timing in mind. This shootout is about two things- what a camera is capable of and what a DP can do with his abilities to make it look great with all of his skills, experience and talent. The key element here is talent. There are no winners as with all of our tests, since winning is dependent on your abilities. This 90 minute documentary will be presented in three parts.+ More details
