This part covers the first 300 miles of the race…from the frozen rivers of the flat lands, up through rainy pass, elevation 3,350 ft..(Featuring a number of Krait wipeouts)…. through the Alaskan range (some stunning country side) and down to McGrath Station… Half way through this Curt starts using the diary camera that I give him. As the race progresses he gets more comfortable using it and tells you some key information about the race, his race plan and his team… but take notice on how the race, lack of sleep, effects his thoughts and speech…. This becomes increasingly noticeable in parts 3 and 4… but then you will see in part 4 how he livens up when he is close to the end… but one thing it does not effects is his drive and motivation…. I was asked why is it not narrated? My thoughts are unless it is the “participant” (Ie Curt ) or Morgan Freeman…. It just does not sound right coming from a third party and sometimes I feel that narrators over dramatize what is going on… I like to tell a story visually and I use music….that relates to what is going on… Audio is a key part in story telling… But in saying this Curt does a fearsome job with is dairy camera; it is real, on the spot, straight from the horses mouth information… Ok I digress… I hope you enjoy part 2…. Once again I recommend headphones or some external speakers…

This shows the launch of the 2014 Idiotarod in NYC -- where shopping carts are used instead of sleds and people instead of dogs. Carts are decked out to look like everything from flying saucers to time machines to daleks to pinatas (sorry no tilde available in this text tool). We documented the mayhem surrounding the start of the race.

Sarah and I went out to the Knik area to visit a genuine sled-dog kennel and mushing outfit. Charlie Bejna will be running the Iditarod this year and we spent some time saying hi to his dogs and even got to stand on the runners for a lap or two around his property and on the original Iditarod trail.
