Iceland in wintertime is beautiful. We go there in March, when there is still a lot of snow and ice, and when Iceland slowly starts to defrost. It is also the best time to see the Northern Lights. This video is a tour impression. Want to join us to Iceland and improve your photography skills at the same time? We spend 5 days in Iceland in December. We tried to do and see as much as possible so we rented a 4wd and drove along south coast from Reykjavik to Jökulsárlón. It's a great country wich you really can't compare to any other country in Europe. We saw beautiful falls, al lot of ice and snow and so much more. We even had the luck to see the northern light a few times. I really hope to come back once, because there's so much more to see. ICELAND BY HELICOPTER :: Over seven hundred years ago, the Poetic Edda, written in Iceland, captured the earliest known lore of the Vikings which had been passed down through word of mouth. Little wonder that this rugged, brooding landscape, alive with fire and frozen with ice, was the birth place of the rich Nordic myths. Today travellers to Iceland are privileged to witness this same spectacular land, virtually unchanged and barely touched by human progress. Join us as we soar over a magical vista in a journey into the extraordinary, accompanied by the remarkable and haunting electric violin music of Ed Alleyne-Johnson which draws its inspiration from a U2 classic. The Poetic Edda is a collection of Old Norse poems primarily preserved in the Icelandic mediaeval manuscript Codex Regius. Along with Snorri Sturluson's Prose Edda, the Poetic Edda is the most important extant source on Norse mythology and Germanic heroic legends, and from the early 19th century onwards has had a powerful influence on later Scandinavian literatures, not merely through the stories it contains but through the visionary force and dramatic quality of many of the poems. Summer 2013: We started in Keflavik (airport) and cycled to Reykjavik on the 41. Busy road and not nice to cycle on the main road. The same for leaving Reykjavik. But the city was lovely! Happily we discovered some cycle lanes and we cycled to Þingvellir, Geysir (Gullfoss) and to Flúðir, Arnes en Hrauneyjar. One of the most beautiful parts of Iceland is Landmannalaugar! There we cycled in 3 days on the F208 to the '1'. From the Skeiðarársandur and the Breiðamerkursandur to the glacier lake Jökulsárlón. Then to Höfn and Djúpivogur. In Djúpivogur we took the bus to Akureyri. It took 7 hours and 412 km by bus to avoid a 'boring cycling' part of this beautiful country. Also the weather forecast wasn't good. In Akureyri we had some resting days and we continued cycling on the '1' heading to Varmahlíð. We crossed Iceland on the Kjölur (F35) to the South in 4 days. Heavy wind! Mostly bad road conditions. Cycling is an adventure :-) For the second time we arrived in Gullfoss and Geysir. Asfalt. On the road '35' to Hveragerði, Þorlákshöfn, Grindavik and then to Keflavik again (427-road). Facts: - cycling days: 21 - distance: 1,268 km - total height climbed: 10,205 meters Music: - Steven Price & Felix Buxton & Simon Ratcliffe - Just Another Day (Attack the Block) - Gustavo Santaolalla - De Usuahia a la Quiaca (The Motorcycle Diaries) - Ólafur Arnalds - Near Light (2 versions) - Björk - Violently Happy (Debut)
