For Seb. <3 The story of star's journey to turn into the sun. (*This is the first time I've ever illustrated and animated anything in its entirety in Illustrator and After Effects on my own, so I apologize for the shotty animation and the poor illustrations...I'm still learning.) Over 100 layers in AE, 10 hours of painstaking self-learning, rendering, exporting, 3 glasses of wine, impatience, 2 cups of coffee, and four puffy spicy Cheetos.

"I no longer think being in love is the polar opposite of being alone, however. I say that because I used to want to be in love again as I assumed this was the opposite of loneliness. I think being in love is an opposite of loneliness, but not the opposite. There are other things I now crave when I am lonely, like community, like friendship, like family. I think our society puts too much pressure on romantic love, and that is why so many romances fail. Romance can’t possibly carry all that we want it to." - Donald Miller Sebby, I got you something, but I wanted to surprise you in a creative way, rather than just telling you. Enjoy! “Butter Fingers” explores some of the more unique items you might not want to let slip through your fingers. Let's face it, if you can't relate to dropping at least a handful of the items pictured, then you're either utilizing duct-tape to it's fullest potential or it was you who dropped the grenade. Condolences. Creating "Butter Fingers" was no easy task and entirely a labor of love for the better part of 2 years. Finding time during evenings and weekends, until all hours of the morning occasionally, holidays etc. until the ground was filled with all the bits and pieces of unlucky items. Although I was a team of one to formulate the ideas, illustrate, design and animate the visuals, that is only half of the pie. I worked with a pair of extremely talented people, each in their own right. Cyrille Marchesseau composed a stunning score based off of a single "Home Alone" reference I provided and created a soundtrack that opens up a colorful world I wouldn't have been able to arrive at on my own. Wesley Slover brought the items to life with marble hits and soda sprays galore, working from my ambiguous descriptions and requests until they were just the right amount of fun. Once everything was complete, he was also responsible for the crisp final mix that you hear now. A special thanks to all those who answered my questions and helped solve problems I otherwise would still be stumped by, including Matthew Sienzant, Mike Florio, Chad Tafolla, Ryan Summers, Ben Tucker, Forbes Hill, Michael Dibblee, Justin Demetrician, and my beautiful wife Katie (who put up with more floor crashes than anyone should ever be asked to). Watch more like this at lynda.com/vimeo. Most logos aren't designed in fifteen minutes, but most designers aren't Aaron Draplin. Aaron's a Portland fixture by way of the Midwest, the owner of Draplin Design Co., and an advocate of "blue collar" design: design that works. Here he takes our logo design challenge, creating a dozen iterations of a logo for a fictional construction company. Not inspired? Just wait. Watch as he sketches, brings his ideas into Illustrator, and tests and tunes the different iterations. The logos Aaron creates prove design can elevate any company or brand. Along the way, he provides tips for freelancing, finding inspiration, and providing clients context for logos that won't just live in PDFs. Get a 10-day free trial at http://bit.ly/ldc-draplin

When Adobe Illustrator first shipped in 1987, it was the first software application for a young company that had, until then, focused solely on Adobe PostScript. The new product not only altered Adobe’s course, it changed drawing and graphic design forever. Watch the Illustrator story unfold, from its beginning as Adobe’s first software product, to its role in the digital publishing revolution, to becoming an essential tool for designers worldwide. Interviews include cofounder John Warnock, his wife Marva, artists and designers Ron Chan, Bert Monroy, Dylan Roscover and Jessica Hische.

My wife is an amazing Baker/Cooker (if that's a word), basically she makes ridiculously tasty things in the Kitchen for your mouth. She finally got around to starting a blog where she shares all kinds of thoughts and recipes and experiences, and I thought this would be a great tag team for us so I started designing in my spare time. 4 months and a couple hundred layers later this is what I came up with! Check her out at: http://adashofthat.tumblr.com/ A special thanks to Slavka Kolbel Kuehn for helping lay down Katie's voice track and to Wes Slover for designing the sound! Tags

Tags are keywords that describe videos. For example, a video of your Hawaiian vacation might be tagged with "Hawaii," "beach," "surfing," and "sunburn."
