The Potting Shed: Iris Garrelfs with Jude C Montague. Saturday 21st February at 7:30pm Iris Garrelfs with Jude C Montague and John Bisset The Potting Shed is a night of improvised sounds curated by Jude Cowan Montague and Iris Garrelfs. It’s all about nurturing sounds and connections with a lighthearted approach to creating things on the hoof. Improvising guitarist John Bisset made his live debut in his teens, but he began to get noticed on the London free improv scene only around 1995. He played with many of the city’s free improvisors and formed The London Electric Guitar Orchestra. He has continued to play both improv (with regular collaborators like Rhodri Davies and Burkhard Beins) and in left field pop groups like Pocket and Country Dad. He also produces extraordinary videos with Ivor Kallin for 2.13 TV. For this event Jude Cowan Montague and Iris Garrelfs are embarking on a motile performance exploring and responding to the gallery space with voice, drawing and general sonic tomfoolery. Rabbit is a duo where the driving, intense, urban, mesmeric drums of David Aylward (Blurt) provide the perfect foil for the layers of edgy originality and profound musicality that emanate from the multi-instrumentalist Tom Scott. Always improvised, always emotive, they produce a contemporary, experimental urban folk mash, merging and mutating genres in an on-going dialogue of sound and music. Swim This performs a rare concert at Freddy's Back Room in Park Slope Brooklyn on Tuesday night January 24, 2012. Rare because their drummer, Gerry Hemingway, teaches now at the Hochschule Luzern in Switzerland and is rarely in New York. It was a joyous occasion. Produced by Michael Evans, the group started at 10:45pm and proceeded to play for over an hour stopping only once to play an encore. The video by Don Mount makes you feel as if you are in the front row of the dark and humid room and the sound is marvelous. The group moves in and out of massive textures and and colors as if, well, swimming in them. Someone recently described their music as shamanistic and in that fashion, reaching the end, they decide to play some more. Swim This is: Michael Lytle - bass clarinet & pre-recorded electronic tapes Nick Didkovsky - tabletop guitar & devices Gerry Hemingway - percussion & voice Production credits are: Videography - Don Mount Sound Recording & Mix - Michael Lytle Video Production - Michael Lytle Concert Producer - Michael Evans Please check out their web sites: http://www.punosmusic.com/pages/swimthis/ and http://www.facebook.com/pages/Swim-This/191946350842691 The group invites you to play this back on a large television and sound system, invite your friends, sit and be a part of this wonderful concert. If you are listening on computer, be sure to adjust the bass higher 'til you are able to hear the bass drum. Then you have it about right.

              from Basa Vujin-Stein / Added

This full version of PATA POETRY provides a detailed insight into the concert, further structures and movements of the orchestral music and more solos. Concert at Stadtgarten, Cologne. Supported by Kunststiftung NRW and by the Departure of Art and Culture of the City of Cologne. With the excellently cast large ensemble PATA POETRY ORCHESTRA, composer and saxophonist Norbert Stein opens a new chapter of his orchestral music: Texts, sound sculptures, sound worlds, orchestral movements and exciting space for improvisers create contemporary music which not only rises from the modern sound language of New Music but also expresses the power and the spiritual depth of improvised music and jazz to a large degree. Many years of work in the field of contemporary orchestral music, a fascination with how present-day compositional languages have evolved and the opportunity to engage with non-European cultures in concert tours facilitated by the Goethe Institute have enabled the composer Norbert Stein to develop a distinctive musical sign language for larger ensembles. PATA POETRY lets listeners experience the wide expressive spectrum of modern orchestral music and demonstrates the creative vitality the art of improvisation lends to music for a large ensemble.
