The camera no longer simply observes movement, but becomes a part of it, out of the realm of the abstract and into the real world, albeit a heavily edited version. In Occupational Slumming, a wealth of digital video footage was edited down into a short piece using the sounds as the starting point, to create a rhythm for the piece. The accompanying video images are at first, incidental to their sounds.

In Symphony for a Sandwich Lady, we are observing the live edit, as everything was shot as seen in sequence on one cartridge of super8 film; an exercise in economy of capture. The only post production is the addition of a soundtrack, which was made by the drumming of fingers upon the computer keyboard whilst watching back the film captured. The film was shot on the move, on trains bicycles and foot, the trigger of the camera gun capturing whatever falls in its path. We jump on board the bicycles of Pan European sandwich ladies as they cycle around industrial estates delivering cheese and pickle rolls to Parts companies and metal workers. These cheese and pickle lovers pack goods into shipping containers which chug on and off of lorries, trains, planes and down to the port where these uniform coloured blocks are loaded onto grand ships and out to sea, back to Europe and beyond.

An introduction that was created for a Magic Documentary. The documentary looked at the Magic Industry in Scotland, and featured a number of magicians. Unfortunately we couldn't get the likes of Penn and Teller and Derren Brown to contribute. But it came out all right in the end....
