Winner: Bronze 2013 Bass Awards Best Social Commentary This video represents the talents of animators Alexander Perry & Michael Wilson along with audio genius Ben Roider. They were supported by Tod Brilliant and Dalton G Crosthwait. Monstro managed the whole shabang. We do our best to support messages that we truly believe in, and this is definitely one of them. There's a lot we could be doing to reduce how much oil we consume - hopefully this little ditty convinces more people that they have the ability to reduce their consumption. A message from the Post Carbon Institute: In recent months we've seen a spate of assertions that peak oil is a worry of the past thanks to so-called "new technologies" that can tap massive amounts of previously inaccessible stores of "unconventional" oil. "Don't worry, drive on," we're told. We can fall for the oil industry hype and keep ourselves chained to a resource that's depleting and comes with ever increasing economic and environmental costs, or we can recognize that the days of cheap and abundant oil (not to mention coal and natural gas) are over. Unfortunately, the mainstream media and politicians on both sides of the aisle are parroting the hype, claiming — in Obama's case — that unconventional oil can play a key role in an "all of the above" energy strategy and — in Romney's — that increased production of tight oil and tar sands can make North America energy independent by the end of his second term. WE NEED YOUR HELP. Please share this video and help bring a dose of reality to the energy conversation: * Email the video to everyone you think needs to watch it * Share it through your social networks * Send it to your elected officials

A collaborative piece between artist Bob Mitchell and film maker Jonny Maxfield. A project set in the stunning industrial landscape of north Wales. Huge photographic images up to 50 ft high displayed as installations in former industrial sites shown with time lapse photography. Produced by Panos Pictures, with photographs by Ian Teh, this is a journey into some of China's most industrialised cities, a journey to the other side of the bright shiny facade that is the economy. It is a glimpse of another life and another world that is rarely seen. China's economy is exploding and behind the scenes of this economic miracle is the industrial revolution powered by the cheap labour that is helping to build and sustain the economy. Coal for power, coal for steel, coal for cement. Coal and labour are the raw materials, the flip side and the dark side of this economic juggernaut that is China. But it comes at a heavy price for the country's environment and its people's health. And now that is has overtaken the US as the biggest producer of carbon dioxide, China's emission levels will increase anxiety about its role in driving man-made global warming and will add to pressure on the world's politicians to reach an agreement on climate change that includes the Chinese economy. A short film about a factory where strange events take place. Did a meltdown occur? Is it a time reversal paradox? Reminds you of 28 Days Later? Visualized as a surrealistic living painting with experimental video art. Shot at the Schaepman factory 'De Volharding' in Zwolle (Netherlands). An industrial paint factory, which was built in 1901 and demolished in January 2012 to make room for apartments. Many thanks go out to my father Hans van der Laan, as extras man wearing an oxygen mask. These shots were actually recorded at a different location and were blended in at post. ARE YOU READY TO GET INSPIRED? In the winter of 2012/13, RIDE GREENER and COUPDOEIL FILM dared to take the step of making the impossible become possible: they produced the first climate friendly snowboard and ski film. In STEPS, the effects of climate change are shown in parallel with the allure of winter sports. The film pursues the question of whether or not snowboarding and skiing in today’s world can be done in harmony with nature. STEPS, a documentary and action film, dives into the world of people whose deep connection to the mountains ties them together. Worried about impending climate change, they are looking for an alternative way to pursue their passion in harmony with nature and experience the mountains in an ecologically sustainable way. Instead of flying around the world in pursuit of snow, they explore the Alps at their doorstep. They travel using public transportation and climb the highest, most impressive peaks on their own before beginning their spectacular descents and jumps. Despite all of their efforts, they reach their limits and realize the real paradox existing in doing winter sports in harmony with nature.
