1. DYAD at Freud Museum London Frieze 2013

    from Alice Tatge Added 10 0 0

Premiere of Dyad performance at the Freud Museum London for Frieze 2013. DYAD is born from the meeting of Italian-American director/choreographer/live artist Alice Tatge and Swedish dramaturge / performer Therese Steele. DYAD is a multi faceted project that investigates the relationship between violence, power, sexuality and gender identity. www.dyad.org.uk DYAD performance is a work on Duality observed from the perspective of two women representing diametrically opposed female experiences and sexual lifestyles: an exploration into the elasticity of boundaries and the overlapping of identities. This project was largely developed in Istanbul, Turkey, during a residency that coincided with the outbreak of the city’s large-scale socio-political unrest during May and June 2013. The external conflict becomes internal when the inevitable and unavoidable question arises of where an individual should place oneself within a collective movement. In this sense DYAD strives to become an active site for the manifestation of social and political activism as well as the physical domain for the production of the relation between subject and object, observer and observed, individual and collective. DYAD also investigates different forms of Dyadic structures, relationships and the role of taboos in shaping our current contemporary discourse, by challenging what has been classified as queer identity/notions of otherness up until now. In its entirety DYAD includes: -Performance -Installation -Publication -Webforum © DYAD Tatge Steele 2013

    • Karin Hochstatter Dokumentation SKOP 2013 Installation KWMobil, Kunstmuseen Krefeld

      from K Hochstatter Added

This was an installation created in 2013 called "Clear Your Throat" It deals with ideas of subjectivity and the "idea of love" and what love entails as I try to unfurl a relationship while inviting viewers to walk inside of the space and stand in-between (if they feel comfortable enough) the characters screaming, laughing, crying, ect. with each other.

              • Happy Death

                from Clarina Bezzola Added 173 2 0

The psychological shields behind which we hide to make life feel safer and to feel less vulnerable are mechanisms we find in all aspects of society. For an artist who likes to create my work in the privacy of my studio "Happy Death" was a true challenge and an opportunity to test new waters. Through this three part art piece in which sculpture, performance and the unpredictable work of soliciting in the streets are combined, I experienced new possibilities of creating. Creating a piece of art entirely dependent on the help of random people I meet in the streets and seeing where the exchanges take me to was a life changing experience! As it is a bit frightening to embark on such a project, I learned that relinquishing control and abandoning my preconceptions about people was the key to success. Letting oneself fall into this unknown space feels a bit like a little death. Abandoning a set self image to make space for getting reacquainted with the world around us and also parts of ourselves we didn't know feels liberating! In the performance part of "Happy Death" I am demonstrating the transformation and liberation of an individual who is helplessly lost in the craziness of her tirelessly blabbering head. As she accidentally knocks over a bell during her wild ranting, she awakes and realizes her delusions. This is the moment of a happy death for her, as she lets go of her inner voices and wakes up to the spontaneous experience of the undefined fresh moment of being alive.
