Copyright: Christine Hoffmann

      • Going Nowhere just for Show ( Combined)

        from annette robinson Added

This film merges together a series of animations that were made in response to a specific site. The site is a design agency office. The piece responds both to the architecture, interior design and the 'hot-desk' use of the site. An elaborately designed space has in one corner something that is clearly the left over of a previous incarnation of the site, a staircase leading nowhere. The animations see a wrought iron spindle work its way free and travel around the room through a series of other animations, that in themselves further reference the space. It is supposed to be somewhat absurd and impossible to pin down. Only two of the films had sound, and as you walked around the space trying to find where the spindle would appear next , the sounds would merge and either fade or be very present depending on where you were standing or the stage of the animation. A few photos of the actual space are seen below with the small screens that the animations were seen on visible but integrated within the objects and furniture of the space.

                      from Alison Safford Added 119 0 0

Hello Goodbye Installed on site at At Home Gallery and Contemporary Art Centre, Šamorín, Slovakia Statement for Hello Goodbye I think of my artwork as a tool or machine to perform some metaphorical task (often an attempt to fix something that can’t be fixed). This piece was started as a way to say goodbye to my father (Marty, Patty, Cousin Mary, Hilda…) even as he was dying/before he died. It is my objection to the voids that are so permanently large a person/body leaves behind. It is a one-way conversation of longing. It is about the gesture of reaching across the physical and metaphorical/symbolic spaces between people/bodies/us. It is one gesture among hundreds thousands and more. (It’s not just mine) We come together, we move apart, repeat.
