I Dream of Wires: Hardcore Edition DVDs, BluRays and accessories available to order now: http://sciencewithsynthesizers.com Due to overwhelming demand, we're pleased to announce a repress of I DREAM OF WIRES: HARDCORE EDITION, our independent documentary epic exploring the history, demise and resurgence of the ultimate electronic music machine, the MODULAR SYNTHESIZER. Available to order now from our new SCIENCE WITH SYNTHESIZERS webshop (sciencewithsynthesizers.com), and coming soon to other select retailers. I Dream of Wires: Hardcore Edition is a companion to the forthcoming feature-length documentary, I DREAM OF WIRES. An alternate/extended cut, I Dream of Wires: Hardcore Edition is 4 hours in length, custom made for hardcore modular synthesizer and electronic music fanatics. Originally intended as a limited-edition pressing, available exclusively to IndieGoGo and pre-order customers, interest and demand for the 4-hour Hardcore Edition has surged since copies were shipped in August 2013. It seems that a 4-hour documentary about modular synthesizers isn't as niche as we thought! While a 4-hours may seem excessive, feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, which has only reinforced our own feelings that the Hardcore Edition is a fun and compelling watch, one that deserves to be seen by a wider audience. I Dream of Wires: Hardcore Edition includes an exclusive, lengthy historical primer, exploring the early development of modular synthesizers from pioneering companies Moog Music Inc. and Buchla and Associates.  From there, we find out what's happening now: the phenomenal resurgence of the modular synthesizer — exploring the passions, obsessions and dreams of people who have dedicated part of their lives to this esoteric electronic music machine. What started out as a "vintage-revival scene" in the '90s has grown into an underground phenomena with a growing market of modular obsessives craving ever more wild and innovative sounds and interfaces. Today, the modular synthesizer is no longer an esoteric curiosity or even a mere music instrument — it is an essential tool for radical new sounds and a bona fide subculture. Interview subjects include musicians and producers Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails), Gary Numan, Vince Clarke (Erasure), Morton Subotnick, Chris Carter (Throbbing Gristle), Daniel Miller, Carl Craig, Flood, cEvin Key (Skinny Puppy), James Holden, Factory Floor, Legowelt, John Foxx and Bernie Krause, as well as manufacturers  and modular industry leaders Doepfer, Modcan, Make Noise, Intellijel, Metasonix, Synthesis Technology/MOTM, Muffwiggler Mike, and Andreas Schneider. A patch inspired by Chaos Theories "The Butterfly Effect". The idea was to create a patch that with very slight changes at the source of events, would produce very drastic changes to the outcome. Patch basics are Pamela's Workout sending two trigger signals with differently programmed parameters to the Intellijel Planar X and Y CV inputs. The Planar then sends those trigger signals to the Make Noise Maths Wogglebug and Function, 4ms RCD, SCM, PEG, and ADDAC Marble Physics. The Planar is also modulating some of the various modules parameters while simultaneously mixing signals from three of the sound sources. While leaving the joystick alone, long cycling seemingly random patterns will emerge. Very slight changes in the joysticks position greatly effect the timing, structure and sonic behaviors of the triggers, modulated parameters and source mixing. Other key modules used were the mungo d0 and g0, Make Noise MMG, DPO, Optomix and Phonogene, Serge Resonant Equalizer, e355 Morphing LFO, e350, Hertz Donut, Dixie's, Gamma Wave Source, Modcan CV Record, amongst others..
