I made this table from scratch for an interactive art and design class. The table uses a playstation eye cam and reactivision software to track fiducial markers on the bottom of the blocks. The data is then loaded into Max/MSP software to trigger and manipulate audio loops.

"The Year's Midnight," 2011 Shadow Box 5 high resolution interactive display with built-in computerized surveillance system 41.14 x 31.5 x 4.72" / 104.5 x 80 x 12 cm edition of 6, 1 AP "The Year's Midnight" is the last piece in Lozano-Hemmer Shadow Box series of interactive displays, which use a built-in computerized tracking system. The project's name is the beginning of John Donne's "A Nocturnal Upon St. Lucy's Day, Being the Shortest Day", a mournful poem which inspires this work. This piece shows the viewer's image on screen, unprocessed, except for plumes of white smoke that emanate from his or her eye sockets until the whole display is filled with dense white smog. Live and recorded eyeballs extracted from the video accumulate on the bottom of the display, similar to traditional representations of St. Lucy. Video courtesy of the artist and bitforms gallery nyc. Bioactive installation, Achatina fulica snails, Augmented Reality technologies "That Which Lives In Me" is an installation that uses Augmented Reality technologies to enable dynamic rearrangement of real and virtual spaces. Drawing on the metaphor of a snail’s “shell house”, we have “augmented” real shells of Achatina fulica giant African snails with a certain analogue of “electronic aura” – an interactive layer of digital visual information. This information is output to the screen in real time, its appearance determined by behaviour of the snails: the dynamics of their movements inside the terrarium and the intensity of their inter-communication. Project URL: http://www.snails.ncca-kaliningrad.ru/eng-index.html Credits: Concept, realization: Dmitry Bulatov, Alexey Chebykin. Programming: Konstantin Semenov. Electromechanics: Nikifor Martishevsky. Termenvoxes: Danil Akimov. Video documentary film: Oleg Blyablyas, Dmitry Bulatov, Alexey Chebykin, Viktor Gurov, Stephen Ankenman. Production: The National Centre for Contemporary Arts, Kaliningrad branch, Russia. Funded by the Dynasty Foundation for Non-commercial Programs (Moscow, Russia).

              from Marcus Capricious / Added

Skip-Rope Habitat / L'Habitat sautant (2011) is an interactive installation piece. The skip-rope is an electronic toy where each turn of the rope changes the colour of your habitat. A cavalcade of 8-bit colour is projected in the installation space, reflecting the limited palette of expression a skip-rope rhyme has to communicate a story or the "trappings of a particular period”, as floklorists Iona and Peter Opie would say; both schemes trying to express something of our world. This documentation is from the Habitat's most recent presentation at the Montréal Science Centre.

http://www.wordthecat.com Interactive audio-video installation. June 2011. This work was inspired by the 'dance dance revolution' arcade machine installed on the street in Osaka's Chayamachi district. The idea was to use a same dance interface to free the participant to create sound and image rather than follow a set of cues on the screen. Each pad on a dance mat launched audio field recordings and a rack of MIDI controlled synths. Each pad also launched and modified video of people performing on the machine in Osaka as well as images from around the city. The work was made using a playstation dancemat, playstation/USB interface, MAX/MSP, Ableton Live and Native Instruments Abysnth, Massive and FM8. The work is here installed at London College of Communication. Thanks to Sally Hancox for the video.

http://www.wordthecat.com Interactive audio-visual installation. June 2011. This video depicts 'southern' as a performance instrument. The objects are mic-ed up and fed through a series of delays. The processed sound from this performance was recorded in-program and then overlaid on top of the camera sound and a bed of sub-aquatic field recordings made off Brighton Pier. 'southern' This interactive piece takes the south coast of England in winter as it’s subject. Visitors are encouraged to bash, stroke and otherwise explore materials from the seaside and the audio visual responses to those materials wired into the gallery space. File under high winds, soggy postcards, new instruments.
