from Jersey Arts Trust Added 300 0 0

To coincide with NatWest Island Games, Jersey Arts Trust marooned twenty artists on Elizabeth Castle; strangers from across the world but united in their identity as Islanders. The Inter-Island Artist Lock-In saw artists of all disciplines and from islands competing at the Games, “locked in” the castle for 10 days, where they developed their ideas and stretched their practice through a spirit of collaboration. The artists came from a range of disciplines and backgrounds, including sculpture, paint, dance, music, theatre, literature, poetry, textile and film. Though their islands varied widely in location, size and topography they are all bound by their relationship to the sea; their tight-knit communities; their isolation; their songs; their stories… During the Inter-Island Artist Lock-In, which ran from 22nd June – 2nd July, the castle became their home, their canvas and their playground where they explored its panoramic views and were inspired by its rich historical ley lines. The performances and installations that took place during the two showcase events were just a snapshot of the collaborations developed in response to the theme of ‘Islandness’. - Thumbnail photo courtesy of Fenby Miskin Photography http://www.fenby.net

                      from Ross Institute Added

In the Ross Learning System (RLS), primary and secondary students master scientific tools, methods, and theories. By integrating disciplines, they learn to see science and technology as fully engaged with human history and human culture, and to recognize both the perils and the promise of science to shape our society and our world. RLS facilitates intensive science inquiry through “Innovation Lab @Ross” where students are motivated to pursue intensive advanced study in mathematics and the sciences combined with an entrepreneurial mindset that draws other disciplines into problem solving to address global concerns and inspire future solutions. RLS also provides “field academy” opportunities for direct research either locally or abroad. These immersive experiences encourage students to practice data analysis, ethical reflection, and instill a sense of personal responsibility, agency, and empowerment. www.rossinstitute.org www.ross.org Ross Institute / Ross School East Hampton, NY
