I was asked by Anthony Kotoun and Matt Knowles to shoot this event for 11th Hour Racing and Line Honors this past March in Key Largo, Florida. There wasn't much breeze and out of the three days of planned racing we got in one days racing. But that one day was amazing! What a great boat to shoot. I used the Canon XF 300 mounted on a EasyRig with a Kenyon 8x8 gyro to keep the camera steady. For the aerials I used a Phantom One with a GoPro and next time will be using the new Sea Hex six engine waterproof drone! Cant wait to get that puppy airborne. We also used two GoPro cameras mounted on the boats and rigs and they picked up the action very well from their different vantage points. I am looking forward to the next event in Rhode Island!. A big thank you to Adrian van der Wal for his help on location in Key Largo with hauling the gear around and flying the drone over the yacht club and race area and to Tate MacDowell for an excellent job on the edit of the video.

We went out to test a new lens after adjusting focussing. Aim of session was to analyse rig/sail/boat/set up etc. However with some creative editing from one of our team the following was created. It just goes to show that even when filming for a specific purpose the footage can still be turned into something memorable. We hope you like it and we hope to catch you on the water very soon.

The International Moth Fleet is undoubtedly one of the most high performance sailing fleets in the world, comprised of some of the world's top sailors. I spent several days shooting with them in Charleston, covering the final event of the Gorilla Rigging Charleston Winter Series, the North American Championships. One might expect a collection of pedigreed sailors such as this to be quite stiff, however what I found was the opposite. Racing with the "Mothies" is all about pushing the entire sport forward, and that entails making sure everyone has the help and resources they need to be on the water, and further more, competitive. Check this out for an outsider's view into one of the most vibrant, fun, high performance racing fleets in the country.
