In The Woods II, August 2013, iPad drawing. A snippet of a recording of the first large wide scale picture that I have set out to draw, spanning a 180 degree view of woodland. I’ve been working in this area for a few months now. Over this time I’ve been satisfied with a couple of charcoal drawings and a painting. I've drawn and painted this scene around 50 times, some days it has been frustrating other days it has been a joy. On the frustrating days I call this place my “nemesis”. Whilst I’ve not finished capturing what I want yet, looking back at my sketches, I’ve been encouraged by what I think is an improvement in my looking and drawing skills on the iPad. I’ll continue to visit this place often.

Hi, my name is Jason Wilsher-Mills and I am a disabled digital artist. I am seeking investment to enable me to attend an international digital arts event in New York, and to also upgrade my hardware, so that I can take my work to the next level. My work deals primarily with my self-image as a disabled person, and the longstanding effects of illness and disability. I do this through the use of theatrical artifice, humour and honesty. The self-portraits are sometimes provocative; with the focus being totally on the message of hope through celebration. I choose with some of my self-portraits to align myself with heroes from my life, which also signpost other facets of my childhood, relationships with my family and personal obsessions with popular culture, such as batman, Dr Who & Rugby League. Through these other aspects of ‘my story’ are unlocked and new biographies are created. I produce my work using an ipad and consider that the images created to follow the tradition of painting, and I then print them out, using the Giclee printing method. The ipad is wonderful as is wonderful as is affords me the opportunity to work on a small scale, but then have the images printed at whatever size I decide as being most suitable. I consider that, although my work is produced digitally, it still follows in the tradition of painting. In October I have been invited to an international digital art event in New York, MOBILE CON 2011, which would give me the opportunity to deliver workshops for internationally recognised digital artists, and to show my work to a much wider audience. Due to my wonderful success, in a very short space of time, I am now looking for further investment, so I can upgrade my hardware, as my images are becoming more and more sophisticated. This is a unique opportunity to sponsor/invest in an artist who is already courting international attention, at the very start of their career. I have already courted much media attention, and would be prepared to share the fact that I have received sponsorship/investment via my website and through the interviews I give to the press. As well as the investment/sponsorship for upgrades to hardware, I also require financial assistance so that I can attend the Autodesk Mobile Con 2011 event in New York on the 3rd October 2011. I need assistance to cover the costs of taking a personal assistant with me, to ensure that my personal care is ensured. Without this investment I can not afford to attend, as basically my costs are doubled due to the amount of care I need, because of my disability. The new equipment, whilst helping me to achieve a greater level of sophistication in my work, will also provide me with the opportunity to work in a much more mobile way, due to it’s size and portability. What will you get back for this? In terms of rewards, I would be willing to give investors a signed print of my work, worth £150, along with smaller incentives for other investors. This is a wonderful opportunity to fund an artist at the groundfloor, of a potentially very successful career.
