1. McNally's Public House

This video piece is the first in a series examining contemporary Irish pubs. The title is a homage to the origins of the pub where private homes would be opened up to offer food, drink, and accomodation. This of course, in sharp contrast to the modern commodification and branding of Irish pubs as they expand rapidly accross the world alongside the Irish diaspora. Subsequently, the pub reflects the Irish population that sustains it - with the potential to be as culturally hybrid in character as even the most distant members of the Irish diaspora. On the same note, the gendering of the Irish identity - particularly the relationship between masculinity and drinking - weigh heavy here in the atmosphere of McNally's Irish Pub, just as it does in the Midwest American-Irish identity. Here also, the number 3 resurfaces several times as it does in Irish iconography through symbols such as the nation's tricolour flag, the shamrock, and of course, the holy trinity; with the iconic pint of stout resurfacing in the same manner.

This is the official video for Joy Nash's summer release, A LITTLE LIGHT MAGIC. I am the voice of the video, as well as the graphic artist and editor, and my band, Corvo did the music, which was inspired by Stevie Nicks and Fleetwod Mac... I mean, when you're doing a video with "magic" in the title, who better to draw inspiration from than Fleetwood Mac?! ;o) Joy Nash was wonderful to work with, and the book is AH-DORABLE... adorable AND HOT, with just a touch of paranormal, which is my idea of a perfect summer romance novel. The main character, Nick is from a very large Italian American family, and they're hilarious supporting characters. Tori, the New Age shop owner is a very unique leading lady, too! Enjoy the video... and the book, should you decide to give it a read! -NiNi
