“A nomad I will remain for life, in love with distant and uncharted places” - Isabelle Eberhardt. Following the footsteps Isabelle Eberhardt (17 February 1877 - 21 October 1904), a Swiss explorer and writer who traveled extensively in the Sahara, this film retraces unimaginable characteristics of the desert through 12 of its forgotten cities. "Architecture is the masterly, correct and magnificent play of masses brought together in light. Our eyes are made to see forms in light; light and shade reveal these forms" - Le Corbusier. One of these cities, El Atteuf, in the M'Zab Valley, and part of the Ghardaia pentapolis, is one of these concentric cities built by Mozabites around 1012. Le Corbusier was much fascinated by the Sidi Brahim Mosque in El Atteuf ('Smooth Space' Sequence) which inspired him to design and build a true architectural masterpiece: the Ronchamp Chapel in France.

(Laura Giordani)
