Sensation: Inside and Out (1999) was screened at film festivals in the UK and in Europe in 2000-2001: START the Millennium Plymouth; Portobello Film and Video Festival, London; Vent d'Altafulla, Barcelona, Spain; Millennium Film Festival of Fine Art, Szolnok, Hungary - where it won a special award in the Fine Art film category. A further performance event was presented at the interdisciplinary conference Relocating the Sacred in Contemporary Performance Practice, UCLAN, 2001. Made by Jackie Calderwood in June 1999, this experimental short film aims to capture some of the ambience and experience of the live event, recorded at Bath Spa University College, March 1999. Participants were invited to sign up for a 30 minute back massage by Jackie (a professionally qualified holistic massage practitioner and artist) as part of the event, and to enter the installation room and sit or stand to watch or otherwise experience the massage and installation. The installation comprised hand-crafted massage table, video projection, monitor with video loop and audio. Audio soundtrack of the installation combines sounds of heartbeat, breathing and water. The film soundtrack also includes voiced comments taken from written feedback by participants during and immediately after the experience - both as 'viewers' and 'receivers'. All videos were shot in SVHS and edited with an analogue mixer. The film was mastered in SVHS and recently digitised for uploading to the web.
