        • Peter Laugesen: Burning signals of two painters

          from Louisiana Channel Added

"Artists have to be like victims on the stakes, sending signals through the flames". Follow the burning signals of Asger Jorn and Jackson Pollock through the eyes of Danish poet, Peter Laugesen. In this film Laugesen puts the two painters, Asger Jorn and Jackson Pollock, into context and reflects on similarities and differences between the two. Pollock, who became one of the pioneers of abstract expressionism, and Jorn who is still, to this day, considered one of the most important modernist painters in Danish art. Laugesen connects the two painters work throughout the film with his poem, Night Steamer, from the book “Sailors Home”. As he puts it, “making a poem or a painting is like a jump into an unknown ocean, you have to go in deep, in order to gain greater understanding”. Laugesen looks at how Asger Jorn did just that, by exploring the methods of a Pollock painting in search of understanding Pollock as an artist. Peter Laugesen (b.1942) is a highly acclaimed Danish poet, one of the finest of his time. Laugesen is greatly inspired by the beat generation such as William S. Burroughs, Allen Ginsberg and Jack Kerouac, and has over fifty published works behind, him in a variety of genres such as poetry, dramatic writings, critics and translations. Laugesen has a profound knowledge on Asger Jorn and Jackson Pollock as they are deeply related to the time of the beat generation. Peter Laugesen was interviewed by Christian Lund at Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, 2014. Camera by Klaus Elmer and Kasper Bech Dyg Editing by Kasper Bech Dyg English translation of the poem by Anne Born Produced by: Christian Lund Copyright: Louisiana Channel, produced by Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, 2014. Western Way Institute presents THE RED DREAM A Film by Lawrence Johns Paul Flum "In a near future fragmented into programmed memories and nostalgia, resistance is consciousness and art is the red dream of civilization. So the future is exactly like the present---you laugh, you cry, and then you are reborn. The Red Dream is a prophetic satire of contemporary American culture in collapse, a sci-fi comedy with the gift of spiritual rebirth. The film is illuminated by Texas Red's paintings----portraits of Western masters that dance and disappear---and sonically carried by the avant garde music of ATHENAPOLIS." Are you ready for THE RED DREAM? For bookings and more info, contact: http://www.westernwayin.com "…Texas Red selects masters of Western culture and sears his brand on their individual genius. His cowboy brand is a lens that magnifies their truth, beauty, and influence on civilization…" "…From the cave painters of Lascaux to Banksy, Texas Red illuminates the most powerful expressions in the history of Western consciousness and leads them into his shifting corral." "…His Rockin’ TR brand produces a "gentle rocking motion", a pleasant dream that moderates reality. His symbolic paintings reintroduce the red dream of civilization."
