Well I've been on a sabbatical of sorts is one way that you can put why I unplugged from the interwebs for a couple of years now. But that's another story that would need to be told over an afternoon of beers. I'm back. This is a story, though, encapsulated in this 6+ minute video clip of more than meets the eye. Sure Chris Roach almost pulls some version of a Kanye West before realizing that maybe I'll just hand the mic back and walk off. In reality, he just wanted to bear hug his friend Bryan Iguchi - and they did over in the dark corner away from the spotlight. As the snowboard industry retracts, recoils, and is showing clear signs of shriveling at the seams like the drought-laden crops of Northern California, and as soulful and passionate and authentic of an action-sport brand - and still backed by legends in their sport - as Volcom ever was/is (you can freely debate the verb tense) tries to reinvent and/or just simply return to its DNA through it's newly adopted, company-wide slogan of "True to This", there are so many things that can be talked about, debated, defended, and dismissed in this clip. Unfortunately to dig down to some of these deeper layers, and to fully appreciate the sadness and eternal bliss that equally coexists side-by-side in this clip, you probably have to have been born before 1980. Hell to really go back to where it all started you need to be on the front, frontside of Gen X.....like born between 1965 and 75. If you're a boomer well of course there's nothing stopping you from getting all the layers of content and meaning in it....that is as long as you switched / started snowboarding at Donner Ski Ranch as a junior in high school in say 1983. In short, though, this night at the 15th annual TransWorld Snowboarding's Rider's Poll hosted at the Ogden Theater in Denver, CO last Friday January, 31, 2014 was dominated by two things: Desiree Melancon's shocking yet intriguingly captivating potty mouth and fascination with her butthole......and Bryan Iguchi. So without further adieu, here's Guch's "A little late in the game but fuck it I'll take it....." acceptance speech featuring special appearances by Chris Roach and Jamie Lynn

Method A fundamental trick performed by grabbing the heel edge of the snowboard between the bindings with the leading hand. Variations on the method include : Crossbone A method but with the rear hand. Space A method (fronthand) but the rider grabs the toe side and pulls the board up in front of him. Mamma A Space Method but with the rear hand. Suitcase A method in which the knees are bent so that the front hand is able to grab the toe edge and hold the board 'like a suitcase.' Grasser, method boneout, power method, or Palmer method Performed by grabbing the heel edge with the leading hand, and tucking up the board while kicking out the rear foot in such a way that the base of the board is facing forward. Jamie Lynn stopped by the office to decorate our mini ramp, we also got him to talk about art, deep pow turns at Baldface, and more. Footage provided by John Laing. Jamie Lynn designed his Phoenix Series power banana for highspeed power freestyle in all terrain. A smooth open sidecut, Jamie’s own mellow version of Magne-Traction for aggressive riders and firm flex make this board unbelievably solid and stable. Jamie’s riding style is full speed all the time, check turn as needed for safety and hit it. His board is designed to get you there in style and keep you on your feet when coming in hot trying to cash that check. Jamie does all his own art. http://www.lib-tech.com/snowboards/jamie-lynn-phoenix-series/
