“How can a theatrical approach be both resolutely traditional and irreverently avant-garde? The border between those extremes is exactly where Company XIV dances — sometimes en pointe, sometimes with folk-infused boot stomps — in its fascinating new ”Snow White.” –The New York Times “McCormick’s imaginative work ignores boundaries between various theatrical, musical, and choreographic genres and ventures boldly into myriad aesthetic territories….saucy and stylish avant-garde musical theater at its finest.” – Back Stage NY “Austin McCormick has manipulated the sugary sweet tale of benevolent dwarfs, innocence and true love into a vibrant tale that has intrigue, nuance, and titillating double entendre, while still remaining a dance/theatre work that parents can take their children to.” –Stage and Cinema THIS SHOW FOR THE ENTIRE FAMILY BLENDS OPERA, CIRCUS, DANCE, THEATRE, PROJECTION, & LAVISH DESIGN THAT IS SURE TO DELIGHT CHILDREN & ADULTS ALIKE. “Company XIV, from America, slip into decidedly decadent mode…for a commedia-cabaret about the seductive follies that almost rob Pinocchio of his chance to be a real boy…Austin McCormick’s company are an accomplished, versatile ensemble with serious circus, dance and singing skills….Wouldn’t you, like Pinocchio, want to stay on a Pleasure Island where lithe, near-naked bodies dance with such raunchy allure? It’s an exuberant romp that teases, pleases and – commendably – doesn’t go for cheap jokes about that long, phallic proboscis.” – The Herald Austin McCormick’s Company XIV puts their Neo-Baroque spin on the beloved story by Carlo Collodi. Inspired by Commedia del’Arte and the films of Federico Fellini, this ravishing show fuses Baroque, Ballet and Flexing with sumptuous design and sound. Theater Credits- Directed and Conceived by Austin McCormick Written by Jeff Takacs Choreographed by Austin McCormick (in collaboration with Jay Donn and dancers) Starring- JAY DONN, LAURA CARELESS, JEFF TAKACS, DAVON RAINEY, SEAN GANNON, MCKAY MONTZ, BRITTANIE BROWN, ARIKA YAMADA, and LAUREN MICHELLE CRIDDLE. “… sex, sensuality, excess and high drama” Black Book Magazine “Here is a company with something to say and the brains, eloquence and goddamn balls with which to say it.” The British Theatre Guide Video credits- Director/DP- Corey Tatarczuk Gaffer- David Hale AC- Jonathan Argudo Grip- Mike Farino Editor- Corey Tatarczuk Theatrical Lighting Design- Gina Scherr Production and Costume Design- Zane Pihlstrom Choreographer- Austin McCormick Text- Jeff Takacs Starring- JAY DONN, LAURA CARELESS, JEFF TAKACS, DAVON RAINEY, SEAN GANNON, MCKAY MONTZ “Once again director/choreographer Austin McCormick presents us with a bouquet of exquisite dancers, a luminous-voiced soprano and the heady glut of Zane Pihlstrom’s fine lace, silk and leather costumes, but, just as in Judgement, his dark vision slowly peels back the layers of intoxicating beauty to reveal a disturbing core at the heart of this tale of hollow pleasure seeking.” – British Theatre Guide

“Austin McCormick’s update on classic fairy tales has plenty of charms for adults and kids. Who knew Lady Gaga and Little Red Riding Hood had so much in common? - The New York Times “Le Cirque Feerique (The Fairy Circus) embraces all of McCormick’s usual punk-baroque sensibilities…a pop music soundtrack mixed with classical and operatic arias and a sexiness akin to Sophia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette. McCormick might not let them eat cake, but his dancers sleep on peas, become swans and dance with bulls…With these seven stories, Company XIV takes you away for over an hour into a fairytale land your mother never told you about.” -The New York Press “Seven fairytales, re-imagined in a way only choreographer Austin McCormick can — with lush, lavish and opulent flare — are laced up into crinolines and presented in Le Cirque Féerique, a baroque-cirque production that charms and delights viewers.”- Show Business Weekly

LOVER. MUSE. MOCKINGBIRD. WHORE. -a dance/theatre meditation on Bukowski’s women- Choreographed and Directed by Austin McCormick Lighting Gina Scherr Set and Costumes Zane Pihlstrom Text Charles Bukowski Video credits: Director, DP, Editor - Corey Tatarczuk AC - Jonathan Argudo Gaffer - Dorian Tocker Hair + Makeup - Sarah Cimino Sound Design - Austin McCormick Expanding on a piece created during his senior year at Juilliard Austin McCormick draws inspiration from the works of poet Charles Bukowski, specifically the female characters prevalent in his works. Utilizing film, movement, and text he seeks to both examine and humanize the women in Bukowski’s work. Laura Careless inhabits these archetypes seamlessly showing that beauty and ugliness are two sides of the same coin. Playing with themes of voyeurism, sexuality, and objectification, Lover. Muse. Mockingbird. Whore. promises to be a thought provoking, uniquely designed mediation on love and objectification -revealing what it means to be a woman in Buk’s world. Laura Careless (Actress /Principal Dancer)- Laura is a graduate of the Royal Ballet School, London; the Ecole-Atelier Rudra Bejart, Lausanne; and The Juilliard School, New York City. She is a founding member of Company XIV, appearing most recently as the Sugar Plum Fairy in their sold-out New York run of Austin McCormick’s Nutcracker Rouge. She also teaches dance at Eliot Feld’s Ballet Tech school for children and works as an assistant to Mr. McCormick, setting his choreography on dancers from other companies and colleges and assisting in the creation of new Company XIV productions and commissions.
