1. Cronenberg: All the flesh, 1975-2015

    from Ryan Edge Added 139 4 1

Compilation of all 36 instances of the word "flesh" in David Cronenberg's movies, from 1975 to 2015. I used videogrep to make this. Videogrep is a Python script that, when passed a word or phrase, parses subtitle tracks (.srt files) and cuts/assembles a compilation of all instances of that word or phrase. In this case, I passed it the word "flesh," Cronenberg's favorite word. Includes clips from: Shivers (1975); The Brood (1979); Videodrome (1983); The Fly (1986); Naked Lunch (1991); Existenz (1999); Maps to the Stars (2014). For more on Sam Lavigne's videogrep, see: http://lav.io/2014/06/videogrep-automatic-supercuts-with-python/ Or check out the code on GitHub: https://github.com/antiboredom/videogrep

Nitehawk presents a special one night screening with Abrams Books of Wes Anderson’s THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL in celebration of Matt Zoller Seitz’s new book The Grand Budapest Hotel. Book signing with Matt Zoller Seitz in Nitehawk’s Lo-Res Bar from 8-9pm. The Grand Budapest Hotel available for sale. Seitz will also introduce the film! Golden Globe winner for Best Picture Comedy/Musical and nominated for nine Academy Awards (including Best Picture), Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel recounts the adventures of Gustave H, a legendary concierge at a famous European hotel between the wars, and Zero Moustafa, the lobby boy who becomes his most trusted friend. The story involves the theft and recovery of a priceless Renaissance painting and the battle for an enormous family fortune — all against the back-drop of a suddenly and dramatically changing Continent. In the new book, The Grand Budapest Hotel, through a series of interviews with Seitz, Anderson shares the story behind the film’s conception, personal anecdotes about the making of the film, and the wide variety of sources that inspired it—from author Stefan Zweig to filmmaker Ernst Lubitsch to photochrom landscapes from turn-of-the-century Middle Europe. The book also features critical essays by Ali Arikan, Steven Boone, David Bordwell, Olivia Collette, and Christopher Laverty; interviews with costume designer Milena Canonero, composer Alexandre Desplat, lead actor Ralph Fiennes, production designer Adam Stockhausen, and cinematographer Robert Yeoman; and an introduction by playwright Anne Washburn. Previously unpublished behind-the-scenes photos, ephemera, and artwork illustrate these interviews and essays. The cover is designed by graphic artist Max Dalton, who also illustrated the cover for Seitz’s previous book, The Wes Anderson Collection, that will also be available for sale at the event!
