Myself and a few friends made art, theater and videos when we all lived in Williamsburg, Brooklyn in the early 1990s. This is part of a video called Confessions Of The Unemployed, part of a series we called TOP PEG. Our friend James, who no longer walks the dirty and dark streets of this earth today, told his story of being fired from Katz after providing sub par waiting service to the Nutty Professor himself. Who was Lewis' agent and the fat bold man who could not get enough meat in his face? These are the questions I ponder on a cold January night at 3am…..

The worlds of a delusional comedian, a famous talk show host and a psychotic stalker come together in Martin Scorsese’s New York centered black comedy, THE KING OF COMEDY. Tom Shone, author of Martin Scorsese: A Retrospective by Abrams Books, will introduce the film. Copies of the book will be for sale before the screening! …it’s a Hobbesian vision of a New York filled with passive aggressors who backbite and snipe at each other. – Tom Shone The bottom is the perfect place to start. Aspiring comedian Rupert Pupkin lives in a fantasy world where he dreams of fame as the world’s top comedian and talk show host. Unfortunately for the man who actually is a top comedian and talk show host, Rupert’s delusions come crashing into his very real world. Scorsese really nails black comedy in this often strangely overlooked film featuring stunning performances by Robert De Niro as Pupkin, Jerry Lewis as the straight-man, and Sandra Bernhard as the obsessive stalker fan. From his debut feature to The Wolf of Wall Street, Martin Scorsese: A Retrospective charts the director’s glittering 50-year career at the helm of filmmaking. Movie by movie, this stunning monograph provides the definitive celebration of one of cinema’s most enduring talents. Tom Shone is the film critic for the Guardian US and the Economist‘s Intelligent Life magazine. He has written for Slate, the New Yorker, and the Sunday Times. He is the author of Blockbuster: How Hollywood Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Summer. He lives in New York.

from Robert Scott Crane / Added

The Bob Crane Radio Show (unaired / unseen promo -- CD was never released to the public) announcer credit: Kenan Pekoz Before starring in television's HOGAN'S HEROES (CBS), Bob Crane was the morning drive host on KNX - CBS radio in LA from 1956 - 1965, where he was anointed "The King of the LA Airwaves." His show was not only wildly successful, it was revolutionary. Bob filled the broadcast booth with wry wit and charisma, not to mention drums, chimpanzees, and movie stars. His show was the number one rated morning show in Los Angeles, and Hollywood's biggest stars were regular guests on his show; Marilyn Monroe, Jack Lemmon, Ronald Reagan, Jayne Mansfield, Woody Allen, Mary Tyler Moore, Bill Cosby, Georgie Jessel, Nichols and May, Bob Hope, Arthur Godfrey, and Frank Sinatra to name only a handful. The morning after the Oscars -- the Stars would stop by THE BOB CRANE RADIO SHOW. Bob Crane is also widely credited with inventing the the use of "sampling" on the radio, and for being the first DJ in the world to earn in excess of $100,000.00 a year (thanks to Bill Paley!). He is also known for being the first DJ to make fun of his commercial sponsors - and for the sponsors to eat it up. He would often cough over Winston cigarette ads. And the sponsors responded by buying more ads during his program. Bob Crane, Hogan's Heroes, KNX, CBS, Jonathan Winters, Mike Nichols, Elaine May, Pat Boone, Georgie Jessel, Donna Reed, Dean Martin, Marilyn Monroe, Jayne Mansfield, Jack Lemmon, Angela Lansbury, Stella Adler, J. Fred Muggs, Mary Tyler Moore, Dick Van Dyke, Jerry Lewis, Ralph Bellamy, Regis Philbin, Al Hirschfeld

This video is a tribute to the works of Jerry Lewis and Miklós Rózsa. Jerry Lewis became an inspiration in my life when I was very young. My grandfather would play episode after episode of the Colgate Comedy Hour while I sat there taking in the chaos and hilarity that ensued on screen. It did not take long for me to find his other works in "The Errand Boy," "The Nutty Professor," "The Bellboy" and so many others. "The Bellboy" quickly became my favorite. My favorite scene has been recreated in this video. And obviously, if you've seen the movie, I could never hold a candle to Jerry Lewis' comic abilities; but hopefully I didn't embarrass myself too much. I was a fan of Miklós Rózsa before I even knew who he was. After watching movies like Ben Hur and Double Indemnity, I couldn't help but notice the stunningly powerful music that would elevate the pictures in front of me. After looking him up, I was shocked to see how much of an impact he had on classic films. I had to add him to this tribute. Hopefully this is self-explanatory, but I realize that I do not own any of the rights to any of Jerry Lewis' or Miklós Rózsa's work. This short was not made for commercial use. I do not credit myself with the overall concept of this video. I do not own the music. This video was made entirely to celebrate the genius of these two men. I am a fan. After a year of waiting, I finally found the time to make this video. And once production began I couldn't stop. After eight hours of shooting, editing and "acting" it was finished. It was a long but incredibly rewarding experience. Shot with a Canon 6D and 5D Mark II DSLR. Edited on Adobe Premiere. I really hope you enjoy the video. Thank you for watching.
