A day at the coast about 3 hours from Canberra, Australia. Shots at the Cape St George lighthouse and Hyams Beach, which purportedly has one of the whiteest sands in the world. As well as a nice sting ray at Murrays Beach boat ramp cleaning up the bottom from the cleaning of the fishermans catch.

A moment with seals , one dive on the southern headland of Jervis Bay . Although the water was reasonably clear it was still very dark , shaded by the high cliffs , needless to say the seals were quite inquisitive but we still always had one eye out for sharks. Over the years I have seen some of the seals from this colony with horrific wounds inflicted by sharks

AUSTRALIA 417 Filmed + Edited by : Nick Thompson Location : Australia Visa Type : Working Holiday Visa (Subclass 417) Camera : GoPro Hero 3 Black Edition Music : Explosions in the Sky 'Postcard from 1952’ Background : From February 2013 to November 2014 I lived and worked in Australia as part of their 417 visa programme which permits a one or two year stay, depending on your completion of the requisite 3 months seasonal work in your first year. With that in mind, a few months into my stay and with agricultural work on the horizon, I bit the bullet and bought the GoPro Hero 3 Black Edition with accessories totalling $750. From then forward, armed with my GoPro and a reliable and persistently generous back-drop, my memory card dined out on my everyday and not so everyday experiences. I exploited the versatility, convenience and malleability of the GoPro as a camera as much as I could and have tried to build the most succinct narrative to summarise my 21 months in Australia as best as possible; giving the viewer a window into what I saw and who I saw it with. Obviously there’s a lot that’s missed out (otherwise this would be a REALLY long video), but my main aim was to make a sort of moving time capsule and framing point that encapsulated some of my relationships, daily drills and thrills and life in general as a short-term guest staying in Australia’s beautiful and plentiful bosom. In addition to this video and as a companion piece, while in Australia I also periodically wrote about my changing circumstances and trials and travel tribulations in the form of cyclical 6 month blog posts. I feel that these diary entries compliment the video well, especially if you’re thinking of heading Down Under to work yourself, so feel free to have a gander by following the deep-link provided below: http://pommydownunder.wordpress.com/about/ Enjoy!
