I made this film for Pirelli in early spring 2012. Just in time for the last of the treks out to Sam Fords Fjord on Baffin Island before the seas thaw and all that is still turns to iceberg mayhem. This really was a truly thrilling film to make and a genuine adventure where I met some of the most amazing people. From the Inuit guides of Nunavut to the extreme sportsman JT Homes and crew, the all time multi talented crew of expert climbers, mountaineers and photographers put together by Jimmy Chin and Camp4collective that made this possible. This was a killer project ... the stuff you dream of doing ... the context was 'far out' ... as dramatic and as epic as I've seen on the planet ... and I was very happy with the raw experience we achieved with the pictures and sounds.

I freed the Salathe Wall in October 2005. An amazing girl I met on the top of El Cap while stashing gear, Cybele Blood, helped me out by belaying and jugging the wall with me and diving into the adventure. Two weeks after I freed the Salathe, Cybele and I went back with my good friend Jimmy Chin to shoot photos on the route. As an afterthought, he grabbed a buddy's small Sony handcam to take some video clips also. I just came across the old mini-DV tapes while cleaning out a file cabinet, and put together this video. Brings back some memories! To read a story about this ascent, check out my first book High Infatuation: http://www.highinfatuation.com/

#904 St. Louis – Bay Area Three college grads travel across the country to speak with Leaders who have defined their own Roads in life. While in St. Louis, the team lets their imaginations run free at the City Museum, an architectural marvel and playground made out of found objects from the city. Afterward, they sit down with founder and creator Bob Cassilly to learn what inspired him. In Idaho, they speak with sought-after expedition photographer Jimmy Chin, who opens up about his fears of failing and the dangers of extreme missions. “Fear is healthy,” he reminds the Roadtrippers. Summary Dean Potter has been pushing the progressive end of climbing and high lining for over 20 years. This film showcases one of his most challenging high line adventures, walking a high line over Yosemite Falls. Comment I’ve been working with Dean Potter my entire photographic career. When I was assigned to shoot a feature story about Yosemite for National Geographic, I knew that Dean would be an integral part of the story. He’s part genius, part mad man and all heart. When I asked what he wanted to do for the story, his first thought was to shoot the Yosemite Falls high line. I’m glad we did.

Summary An intimate portrait and adventure with photographer Jimmy Chin as he attempts to cover the climbing culture and cutting edge of climbing in Yosemite for a National Geographic feature cover story. Comment After two months of shooting on assignment for National Geographic and with the help of multiple Camp 4 teams documenting the project, we were able to compile and combine much of the behind the scenes action and climbing footage from the shoot to create this piece.
