A short and sweet demo of the app we built last month in Chris Chapman's Mobile Device Deployment class at Full Sail University with Alicia Brooks, Anthony Colangelo, Kent Lassen, Tyler Matthews, Zachary Nicoll and myself. We used jQuery Mobile Alpha 3 which was quite a bit capricious at times with a custom OOP/MVC backend in PHP/MySQL built by Anthony and Tyler. Thanks to Andrew Smith's great advice Zach and I also built an internal JavaScript API to handle calls to the PHP API and cache everything locally using HTML5 localStorage. Tyler and Anthony used the absolutely dreadful Paypal API for our credit card payment system and somehow made it work. The interface is a bit spartan since we ended up having less time to customize jQuery Mobile than we would have wished (the entire project took 20 days) and there are still minor usability glitches due to jQuery Mobile's persistent navbar which is not yet ready for primetime but it's a decent product.

                    from rebeca sá / Added

School Connect is a collaborative mobile application that addresses the need for parents to be better connected to information about their child’s education. As human computer interaction practitioners we used three phases to create School Connect: the research phase to identify user needs, the design phase to detail our solution and the implementation phase where we move from ideas to reality. School Connect was created by combining insight from these three phases. The application is the final output of the capstone project in the Human-Computer Interaction dual masters program at Carnegie Mellon University and Universidade da Madeira. Team: Nick Matterson - Research Lead Rebeca Sá - Design Lead Marco Silva - Technical co-lead Boris Smus - Project lead and Technical co-lead Academic Advisor: Prof. Ian Oakley
