1. Gordon & Traveler Catch the Big One

    This fall (2014) my father, Gordon, and I had a great day fishing on Kachemak Bay near Homer, Alaska. We caught this 106 lb. halibut in less than 100 ft. of water. It fought hard at the bottom, then nothing on the way up, then again valiantly right on the surface. We didn't have a gaff so Gordon tied a slip knot around the pole then slid it down the rod and around the fish. When the fish felt the line, it took off. We did this same thing in Kodiak 24 years ago when I caught a 300 pounder, also without a gaff. We need to get a gaff...

        I had an appointment to get new sneakers for the Beast (our BMW R1200GS) in a couple days, so we killed some time and took a short excursion down the Kenai Penninsula to Homer. Camped overnight on the beach and enjoyed the spectacular views around the Cook Inlet and Kachemak Bay.
