I'd been pushing for more film, animation and branding work commercially lately, but hadn't put together a showreel to showcase the variety of work I can do. This reel is all the example's of Event Video, Commercial Video and Food Video's I've made over the years. Every time I went to start this showreel, another job came up that made me wait, as I kept wanting to fit more and more. The famous line, "just ship it" forced me to push and just get it out, so unfortunately not all the projects I would've liked made it into this edit. (But eventually they'll be in it) A big thank you to everyone through all the collaborations, support and guidance, we've made some great work together and had lots of fun doing it! Can't wait to keep pushing and see what's in store this year! Enjoy!

    • "Chromatic Motions" | Vivid 2013 - Thi Nguyen & Stephen Hamper

Chromatic Motions is a virtual instrument that allows users to paint on a virtual canvas with their body. The installation analyses live-feed from users and converts shape and motion into colours. This is designed to work with any number of people and the interaction is very simple - touch creates colour. While the installation is suitable for a single user, when multiple users are present a new dynamic emerges between people. A user-to-user interaction is born when the users start playing with each other, working collaboratively to create shared artwork. The sensation once experiences and reacting in real-time to their own movements is what matters - similar to a musical instrument. While one often plays a piano to compose and record, it is quit common to just play and improvise without any concern for recording. Every note is just for the moment, a real-time reaction coming from within. Hence when you stop interacting, the colour fades away, leaving only the memory, like the song you've just played. Chromatic Motions is designed to create dialogue with people based on either satisfying an interpretation of goal states or creating new emerging states based on ambitious assumptions of desires. Key to such dialogue, however, is that the user is engaged: asked, enticed, manipulated, directed, or coerced. The feedback loop created by interaction will ultimately lead to enhanced experiences, as users and the installation remain in a constantly evolving dialogue between activities and the quality of the experience of performing these activities. It is the encouragement of sociability where interactive is at the most potent, where it has the ability to transcend the everyday to enable the individual to be playful and have fun. Chromatic Motions explores the way interactive environments encourage us to leave our isolated self and interact with the greater social group perhaps merely for the joy of playing and contributing. Play is a creative agency delegated between human and non-human actors. It allows us to create new types of connections with each other. The beneficial effects of getting just a little play can spread through our lives, actually making us more social, creative, productive and happier in everything we do.
