    Fire officials were on hand to give an update on the Reading Fire Sunday, Aug. 12, 2012, to Old Station residents. Nighttime humidity levels, which had been no higher than 25 percent, reached 65 percent Saturday night and early Sunday morning, providing aid to firefighters. The fire is still five miles away from Old Station and has moved just a mile in that northerly direction the past four days. Most of the fire activity has been on the east side and away from any structures.

      The Reading fire that started from a lightning strike inside Lassen Volcanic National Park July 23 had grown to 3,700 acres by Aug. 8. The fire was burning 14 miles south of Old Station and only had five percent containment on Thursday morning. The flames in the video are burning along Highway 89 just south of Crags Campground inside the park where a base camp is housing 492 fire personnel. Fire officials held a community meeting in Old Station Thursday evening. Kent Swartzlander, deputy fire incident commander, noted the Reading Fire is now top priority in the state for commanding federal resources in fighting the inferno.
